Yorkshire (East Riding & York) / Re: James Dalby bc 1785
« on: Thursday 13 April 23 08:52 BST (UK)  »
I didn't know he was a mariner, thank you for that xx

I have found a death notice in The Yorkshire Gazette, Saturday 30 December 1826 for a Captain James Dalby of the sloop Wharfinger xx he died in Hull, but was from York and was in his 39th year xx this would put his date of birth around 1787 xx

Could this be the James Dalby mariner I'm looking for??????
Further investigation needed I think xx

Kent / William IDDENDEN b1840 Wye Kent
« on: Monday 08 August 22 17:15 BST (UK)  »
Hello Everyone, looking for a little bit of help please. I am researching a friend's family tree and I have hit a brick wall.
William Iddenden bc1840 in Wye, parents Henry and Sarah. I have found him on 1841 and 1851 census living at home.
In 1881 I believe he gets married to Mary Ann Susan Bundock b1862 and has 13 children (info taken from 1911 census)
I can't find him on the 1861,1871 and 1881 census.
I did find a newspaper article (1903) referring to a William Iddenden having 22 children in Herne Bay, which would be the correct location.
It is possible that he could have been married before, but I just don't know.
Any help would be most appreciated.
Thanks very much,
Carrie xx

Yorkshire (East Riding & York) / Sarah OVEREND, Hemingbrough
« on: Sunday 02 May 21 13:50 BST (UK)  »
Good Afternoon everyone, hope you are all well  :)

I appear to have hit a massive brick wall.... I am trying to find a mention anywhere of the birth of a lady named Sarah Overend. She married a man named Christopher Slater (who I'm also unable to trace) from Wakefield, described as a gentleman in the parish register. They married, by licence, in Hemingbrough on 20th July 1801. The couple went on to have just 2 children: John Christopher Slater b1802 and Henry Overend Slater b1805.

Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated,

Thank you, Carrie xx

Durham / Robert FOSTER b1812 Tocketts and Ann ? b 1822 Aycliffe
« on: Sunday 08 November 20 15:27 GMT (UK)  »
Good Afternoon everyone,

I am starting to tie myself in knots looking for a marriage or possibly two!!!!! I span two counties: Durham and Yorkshire.
I am looking for a marriage between a Robert Foster born 1812 in Tocketts Yorkshire and an Ann (surname possibly Nelson)
I have 11 children for the couple, but I have a feeling that the eldest 2 may have a different mother.

So here is what I have Robert Foster was a miller born in Tocketts, Yorkshire in 1812. On all the census he is down as having a wife called Ann possibly born around 1822 in Aycliffe Durham.
In 1841 there is 1 child Thomas bc1836.
In 1851 there were 4 children Thomas b Guisborough, John bc 1841 Middlesbrough, Richard Foster and Benjamin Foster both 2 bc1849 Aycliffe Durham.
In 1861 there were 6 children mentioned, Benjamin age 12 b Aycliffe, Robert age 9 b 1851 Stockton, Ann E age 7 b 1854 Stockton, Henry age 6 b 1855 Stockton, Alice age 4 b 1857Thirsk and Thomas age 2 b 1859 Thirsk.
In 1871 four children are named, Henry b Stockton, Thomas b Thirsk and a Mary b Darlington and a William b Stokesley.

Having searched the GRO I think I can be safe in saying that all the children born in and after 1849 their mothers maiden name was Nelson, not sure about the first Thomas and John.

Really struggling to find any marriage at all for a Robert Foster and an Ann Nelson.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I think that Robert Foster was my 3 x Great Grandfather.
Thank you very much Carrie xx

« on: Wednesday 28 October 20 15:38 GMT (UK)  »
Hello Everyone,
I have hit a brick wall on this one, I am searching for Sarah Ellen Nelson Foster on the 1911 census.
She was born 17 November 1874 in Stockton to Robert Foster and Ellen Galtress.
I have her living at home on the 1881 and 1891 census.
On the 1901 census she is working at the County Lunatic Asylum, Sedgefield and in 1939 living at 5 Frome Road, Stockton, retired mental nurse, single.
She died 25 July 1965 at Oaklea Nursing Home, Middlesbrough (date taken from probate)
I really hope someone can help, thanks, Carrie xx

Lancashire / PARKER's of Burnley
« on: Friday 01 May 20 20:32 BST (UK)  »
Good Evening everyone, hope you are all ok,

This is a very strange request.....while in lockdown I am researching the family tree of one of my work colleagues. Her grandmother was Emma Parker born 2 November 1904, daughter of Lemuel Gibson Parker 1876-1923.

I know this is a longshot but Lemuel Gibson Parker was buried in Burnley Cemetery, Grave A7940 with his wives Mary Ellen and Mary. His 5yr old son Harold was buried in Grave A7939.

Then I found Lemuel Gibson Parker's parents James and Rebecca are buried in Grave A5863 along with their 2 day old daughter Lavinia. 2 more of their children, Hannah Maria and Mary Ann are buried in Graves A5864 and their son Robert is buried in Grave A 1388.

I don't suppose anyone out there has photos of these graves, if indeed they are still out there. I don't expect anyone to go out and look for me due to the current lockdown situation. :) xx

Thank You Everyone, Stay Safe, Carrie xx  :)
