This is really interesting info. I haven't been active in family history for some time so I will have to retrieve my files.
I did try to register my email address but quite understandably,  it wasn't allowed. It was suggested I did PM but I don't know how..
I will put together a family tree for you and post it.

Wow, this is wonderful. First time any of my postings have produced any relatives.
The Dorneys are my late husbands family and Augustine and Ellen were his great grand parents. I have been trying for years to find a family for him as his father (Richard) was the son of Bernard, son of Augustine died before my husband was born.
I am happy to let you have the information I have gathered so far.

Tipperary / Britt in Clonmel

I have a marriage for Ellen Britt to Edmond Downey in 1837 at ss Peter and Paul Parish Church, Clonmel. I am pretty sure this is my relative Edward Dorney and would really love to find out about the Britt family. If anyone is researching this family or has any information, please, please let me know.

You have been so busy! Thank you so much, I really do appreciate all your help.

I have tried looking for Monica Dorney ( mentioned on the 1901 census) who I guess would be the grand daughter of Ellen Dorney. She was born in Liverpool so might be a connection to other Dorneys living in England. Not had any luck so far but will keep trying.

Again,many many thanks

Jill

That is brilliant, thank you so much for your help.

Your information gives me so much to work on. I felt sure there must be more family members around.I can now start searching for them.

Augustine was my husbands gt grandfather who came to England before 1861, he and most of his descendants were musicians.

Many, many thanks
Jill

Thank you Shane I was hoping that was the case.

I know there were several Dorneys in the area but the Edmund and Eleanor threw me
.
On Augustines' marriage certificate in 1861 fathers name was Edward Dorney (deceased) a draper.
Slaters directory 1856 has an Edward Dorney as a clothes dealer.
1877 Waterford Almanack and Directory has Ellen Dorney, clothes dealer at 17 Patrick St.(Edward would presumably be dead)
1894 Egan Directory had E Dorney - haberdasher.
I feel sure these were the parents

I now need to find out if Eleanor and Ellen are the same person and if there is anyone searching for the Britt family. I would also love to know if there were any other children.

Jill

UPDATE
After almost giving up on tracing the Dorneys in Waterford I have managed to find a baptism for Augustine dorney on the Waterford Heritage website. as this was the only baptism for an Augustine I think I may have hit the jackpot.
Date of baptism - 16 October 1837
Parish - Trinity Within (Cathedral)
Father - Edmund
Mother - Eleanor Britt
Sponsors - Patrick O'Connor and Bridget Darcy

Only problem - On his marriage certificate fathers name is  given as Edward!!

I am posting this update in the hope that someone could tell me if this could be an error in transcription or may recognise the names of his mother or sponsors.

Eternally hopeful, Jill
