Many thanks Sandra - very quick. I'll study it to see if there is anyone else by that name that was sent out first.

Would like to check this out just in case it is my Frank with a poor transcription of his surname.
Thanks

Is that the Frank Rymill - 1891 birth - 9c 574 - mothers maiden name Clevery ?

Appears in 1901 Children's Home -  Brightside Bierlow, Yorkshire with a brother Thomas Rymill aged 12 years - Frank Rymill 11 years ?

What information have you got so far ?  When was your last UK sighting ?

Sandra

See attachment - yes you have the right person there - he seems to have disappeared aged 17 in 1909 in Canada. His mother was still alive but I think they sent him to Canada aged 11 probably because he had been in a truant school three times and they  thought he needed some discipline. Last UK sighting is 1903 when he left England.

Many thanks to both of you - the Fir Vale Homes were opened in 1894 -  1939 though the workhouse was opened in 1881. Thank you for the extra info on Edward Hamilton - he was on my list and I knew he was killed but wasn't aware of the details.

Yes based on what I already know I am ploughing my way through all sorts of records relating to Sheffield Guardians. They sent children out by various agencies and I would love to hear about what happened to some of these children once they arrived. I have had some descendants get in touch with me before but I would like to have a database of all the children who were sent from Fir Vale Sheffield. Perhaps one day.... I do have a query on one particular child Frank Rymill who was sent out there and he disappeared after so many inspections. He belongs to my granddaughter's maternal family.

Hi
I would like to hear about any children who were sent to Canada via other agencies from Sheffield (Fir Vale) Workhouse. I am a volunteer at the Hospital History group at Fir Vale and know about some of the children but would like to hear more.

Gloucestershire Lookup Requests / George Wood
« on: Sunday 21 May 06 13:34 BST (UK)  »
My Great grandfather was George Wood who in later census always stated he was born in Stroud Glos. According to the census he was born sometime between 1829 & 1834.  On his marriage to Mary Ann Rock in Kingswinford 1852 he states he is a boatman as was his father also named George. I would like to find George in the 1841 & 51 census and to try and confirm his parentage and birth/baptism date so I can progress with that particular line. He eventually moved up to Cumbria. Can anyone help me with this? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
