Di,

The ages of the Ennises that you have marked in bold are exactly right so looks good. Thank you very much.

Ruth,

I forgot to add that the family story is that James left Harriet for another woman and her family had to club together to pay for their passage back to Cornwall.  Hilda Ellen is my maternal grandmother .  They are found on the the 1901 Census living near Harriet's father in St Austell.  Not really surprised about Alfred as he is not present in Cornwall again.  Will look at other sites in 'resources' for James's Death and possible remarriage. Thank you.

David

Australia / Lookup : Passenger Lists to Adelaide
« on: Thursday 09 August 07 12:39 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I wonder if anybody is able to do a lookup for me please?

Harriet and James Ennis emigrated from St Austell, Cornwall to Adelaide sometime in 1879.  They are two of are my maternal g-grandparents.  They were married in St Austell on 28 Jan 1879 and their first son, Alfred was born in Ovingham, North Adelaide on 27 Sep 1879 (or registered on that date).  If it helps their surname may be transcribed as *Ennes* as it is on their marriage cert.

Any information gratefully received.

Lynn,

Edith and Christopher were certainly married in a CofE Church in St Austell so I will try the person you recommended.

Lynn,

The marriage certificate shows that he married Edith McIntyre (widow) in St Austell Cornwall on 29 Jul 1909.  Her father was Philip Bond (miner) who I have found on the 1881 Census living in St Austell(age 17yrs).  He then disappears from St Austell and I can't find a Marriage for him in Cornwall. Nor can I find a birth for his daughter Edith.  I'm pretty sure about this as Bond is not a very common name in Cornwall.

My working hypothesis is that Philip Bond emigrated to SA, married had a daughter, Edith who then married a Mcintyre who left her a widow. Christopher Robins then met her and they agreed to marry coming back to St Austell to do so as it was where her Father was born.

Thanks Lynn,

Have just found a marriage of Christopher Robins to Edith McIntyre in St Austell, Cornwall in Sep 1909.  Have ordered the cert.  Looks like he must have returned home to marry.

Thanks for that.  Just one question.  William and Grace wedding in Probus.  Are you implying that Grace's Maiden name was Kendall or that it was not given?

Cornwall Completed Lookup Requests / Marriage: KENDALL in Gorran or Mevagissey
« on: Sunday 03 June 07 17:42 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for the marriage of William Kendall born in Gorran in 1791.  I have only been able to track him down in the 1841 Census. He died in 1860 but can't find him or his wife in the 1851 Census.  His wife would have been Grace and she was born about 1801 (being the 1841 Census no place is given.)

Sorry for the delay in replying - have been away:

William married twice in England:

First Elizabeth Chapman in 1875 in Portsea, Hampshire.  He was then posted to India/Afghanistan.  Unfortunately Elizabeth died in 1878 (in India).  They also produced a son John who was born and died in India at less than two years old in 1877.

Second he married Elizabeth's sister Eliza Ann in 1886 in Woolwich, London.  She was christened just Ann and added the Eliza presumably after her sister died.  They had five children including my Grandfather Joseph Henry in 1898.

Thanks for PM.
