Peter
There isn't an obvious connecetion between your tree and the one that my stepmother is part of. However her Hamer family tree is full of lines (i.e. children) that we haven't followed through so there may be a connection somewhere with the line you are following.
I've attached on the public part of this site a pdf copy of the main lines of the Hamer family that I am connected to via my stepmother. What you'd be looking to do is plug your line in somewhere, not sure where 'though.
I'm also going to send you via private email on this site a copy of the write up I did for my stepmother about the Hamer family tree. I hope you find it interesting, even if you don't manage to make a connection to it. Very interesting bunch of people the Hamers....

Hello Peter
Sorry for the delay in replying. I don't use RootsChat much at all these days!
Can I ask how you are related to the Hamers to make sure we are talking about the same line. My stepmother is Patricia (nee Longmead), daughter of Ethel L M Hamer (1904-1966) and William Longmead (1899-1975) and granddaughter of Ernest Tindall Hamer (1870-1939, died in Dearborne USA) and Eliza M Privett (1870-1904).
I have a tortuous family history of my stepmother's Hamer line available, full of marriages and remarriages and people with the same name (Especially Maria). All very confusing.
I'm happy to send you what I've got as an attachment if can first you let me know the connection (for obvious reasons)
Dave

Nothing at all I'm afraid. Looks like I'll have to take a trip up there myself when I get the time and dig around the records office.

I am looking for any entries under the surname CHARLES in the period prior to 1780.... and the records office is 200 miles away from where I live !!
Many thanks.

England / Adoption records .. where are they ?
« on: Thursday 02 August 07 12:03 BST (UK)  »
I have recently received a copy of my Great Grandfather's (JB) death certificate (June 1927)
The certificate is witnessed by my Grandfather (AJB), who has shown his relationship to my GGF (JB) as being his "Stepson".
Which was news, to say the least.
Which now leaves me with the problem of trying to trace who my Grandfather (AJB) actually was !!!
In summary, my Grandfather AJB was born in 1891, probably in the West Ham / Poplar (possibly Shoreditch) area of E London.
When AJB got married in 1919 he showed JB as being his father.
I have never managed to trace AJB's birth certificate, either under his surname nor that of the maiden name of his adoptive mother.
My best guess is that my Grandfather was adopted at about the turn of the century - something like 1891 to 1910.
Does anybody have any knowledge of -
> How probable is it that this was an "official" adoption (ie what sort of procedues were in place in the late 1800's, early 1900's) and that some sort of record therefore exists.
> Where the best place to start enquiries about the existence of an official record would be.
To make it more complicated, there are no surviving relatives to ask !!!
Thanks

Hi Lyn.
The references to Garnetts in the bible are as follows
- Isabella Garnett d 13.11.1900, Norwood
- Maria Garnett d 24.4.1914, Norwood
- Frederick Garnett b 22.10.1886, d 27.7.1959, Torquay
Other papers I've inherited refer to
- Charles Garnett d 12.5.1928, Wallington, Surrey
- Ellen Garnett d 26.5.1950, Hove, Sussex.
Doesn't look like there is a connection with your tree, unless you know differently...
Cheers
Dave

Family Bibles / HAMER / GARNETT family bible
« on: Wednesday 09 May 07 12:57 BST (UK)  »
I have recently inherited from my stepmother a family bible for the Hamer family (her mother was Ethel Louise Hamer b 1904 d 1966)
The Hamers are originally from Stokesay Parish, Clunbury and Clun in Shropshire (I also have a handwritten family tree prepared by my stepmothers Uncle, tracing back to Richard Hamer b 1705, Clunbury).
The earliest entry in the in memorium pages in the bible is for John Hamer, b 30.3.1838, who died 20.1.1872 in the South Africa diamond fields. The surnames on the page switch to Garnett (my stepmothers grandmother).
I'd be really happy if I could return this bible to a blood descendent of the family - please contact me if you are one, want more info, or can help trace someone who is....
Cheers
Dave
