Quick question.
Does anyone use Find my Past these days ? If so is it worth joining ?
I used to subscribe before the massive change a few years ago but opted out and haven't used it since.

Many thanks
Trish.

Family History Beginners Board / Re: The GRO is still working

Thanks for the update.
Can someone kindly tell me how long they normally take as I only ever order by mail ?
Wondering if it may be better to wait a while before ordering.

Thanks
Trish.

The Common Room / Re: What would you do?

I think that you should make contact, without telling the rest of the family.

If it works out and a relationship is formed between you two, you can then make a decision (with your aunt) as to who else might be told.

If a relationship is not formed, you will have lost nothing and neither will any of your family.

Christmas is coming (The Season of Good Will to All Men), start with a Christmas card and a cheerful letter. See what kind of response you get.

Good Luck

Regards

Chas

100% Agree.

The answer may be to ring Ancestry, I have always found them to be extremely helpful and solve the problem whilst  you are talking. Save yourself a lot of stress.

Good luck

I found one of a distant relative serving time in San Quentin for the forgery of cheques, this was his 4 trip to San Quentin, lovely mugshot.

Yes, once a few years ago, and they only came back with the information which I had given to them. I have done my own research ever since. My opinion was it was a waste of time. Ask forums for help or persevere on your own.

Good luck

The Common Room / Re: Changes to FIND MY PAST "My Records"

Not 100% sure Ruskie but from memory (Which is not as good these days) but I think it goes by the date, and because time is so short for me to do anything properly I will get myself all stressed out and it really isn't worth the hassle.
FindMyPast where never the same after they changed their format and had everyone abandon ship for a while but I stuck with it, the usual thing wipe your feet on the most loyal, after all you are only a number with a $ sign.

Thanks Ruskie :)
