Carmarthenshire Lookup Requests / Re: 1841 Census Llaneli look-up please
« on: Saturday 22 December 18 02:20 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Chris ,  are you still out there? My name is Donald Ridley and in researching my father I found that he lived at #5 Tytherton Rd Islington and coincidentally perhaps a John Henry Llewellin Ridley lived at #15. I thought perhaps they were related but never found a link. I found an item on Family Search which indicated John Henry was son of John Walton.
Finding your posting from way back indicated you were researching John Henry Llewellin from his father's,  John Walton ?side.
Can I ask I you have more history you could share
I still wonder if there is a link to my family.
Thanks in advance.

Hello there Ann or is it Annie

No I haven't participated in the DNA test.  I think my link is ar too tenuous to consider a relationship and most unlikely.

My search was for an Alfred Ridley's (b. 1837 Stepney) although I'm not even sure he was my grandfather as there are doubts about my fathers origins.  Such are the frustrations and pleasures of research.

My interest or collected background on various Ridley's comes from the fact there was large family of them in Whitechapel. Predominately gunsmiths although there were watchmakers, wheelwrights, hatters, and musicians among them. The records I have of these stems from late 1700's and I thought I might find a link to my grandfather........no luck though.

Your search interested me  because among the Whitechapel Ridley's I'd found this link to Birmingham with William John and Lydia which I thought surprising. Such a distance. It's possible the whole family migrated from Birmingham but still had some relatives there and so returned to visit.

I did find the Henry b.1840 you referred to with his wife Ann and children........  looking at where they were born he appears to be a sort of Journeyman Blacksmith. I do think this Henry naming his children Joseph and Mary is significant.

Sorry I see no more at the moment........however I note Trish has come up with some leads.

Good Luck....I'll keep watching in case I can be of help.

Happy New year

Donald

Perhaps you have resolved your question now but........
William John was a Gun Finisher as described on the Census of 1851. Henry is described as 21 on the 1861 Census while still with his mother and father. I guess you found him on the 1871 Census after he'd left home ? and his age would have been 31. His father was by that time deceased. William John was born in Whitechapel Middlesex and was son of a William Ridley who was a gunsmith and Ann Fraser.
They appear to have been a rather extensive family spanning Birmingham and Whitechapel, London.
Hope this is of value. If you discover more of the Birmingham Ridleys perhaps you'd let me know. I'm trying to tie them all together.

JDC the library came up trumps with articles from the Fort William Times. These were obits from both Middleton seniors passing, 1962 and 1963. Those articles the gave name of another son, Albert who moved to Toronto whereas James remained in Fort William. I think I now have enough to follow up.

So that was a good lead. Consequently I'll not ask you to break your routine and take pics for me. They seemed to live in several places. Thank you for the offer though JDC.

....and again thank you to you JDC. Great help.

I have contacted the TBPL asking which Parish Nora Street was/is in. While John Henry appeared unmarried, living at home on 1940 Voters List, I'm presuming a marriage later.

Off subject but I must say your ' in the doghouse' gave my wife and I a chuckle. I trust that's just your whimsy.

Regards and thank you again

Well thank you very much. I don't know what you can find or where you could look,  but I'll just throw out what information I have.

James John Middleton was my uncle and I have a letter he wrote to my mother undated but certainly well after 1918, as he writes as an old man with aches and pains. This was with address 728, Norah St. Fort William.
The 1921 Census however shows him with wife and son James Henry born 1917 (not 1817 as I had shown) at 1105 Edward St. Ward 4 Fort William.
Of course I'd like to know of any other progeny of James John or James Henry.
While I appreciate you kind offer and am grateful I must insist you not put yourself to any trouble.
Perhaps if there is a FHS that you could identify I could follow up.
Thank you once again

Looking for anyone researching James Henry Middleton b. 1817 to parents James John Middleton (b. 1880) and Louise Anne who emigrated from England 1908.

Census of 1921 shows living in Fort William Rainey River, Ontario.

Tks
