London and Middlesex / Re: John Enright Ryan

Hello Meliora,
I am hoping that I might make contact with  other descendants of John Ryan. I have been researching the family for years as one of his daughters, Agnes, was my gt grand mother. She had siblings Louise, John, William and Kathleen.
There are a lot of John Ryans in the records for that time,  but anybody who is descended from this particular John Ryan will know because of the middle name.

John Enright Ryan was born in Belfast around 1851.His father. also called John, was a soldier.
John Enright worked in the printing trade in London, and married Ellen Caroline Williams in 1874 in Holborn. They lived in Holborn, St Pancras, and Southwark, and their children were Agnes, Louisa, John, William and Kathleen. Does anybody have any information about the family?

Hello Jackie,
No I've never (so far) found a marriage certificate - I've been looking for years and unless I've just missed something, i wonder if they actually married.

Hello Jackie,

I think it was through the Hampshire Genealogical Society - www.hgs-online.org.uk

Hello Jackie,

I didnt find a baptism for John  - I think I just  saw  his age at the time of the 1851 census and deducted it - which I know isnt the most accurate way of doing it - its just an approximate guess.
The lady from Portsmouth who wrote to me ( I sent a letter to the Hampshire Family Historian) sent details she found from the Alverstoke Parish Marriage Registers  showing John Terlour marrying Mary Ann Mortimore, and stating that his father was also John and a yeoman.

Hello Jackie,

I expect you've probably got this info already - but heregoes.
I found John Tellore (Terlour) on the 1851 Census for Alverstoke living at 42 Wyper Alley with Mary Ann and children Harriett & John. John, a waterman, born Falmouth in 1814.His father was also John and a yeoman.

In 1851 census for Devon, found Abednigo Terlour, aged 70 living with wife Betsey in Plymouth. He was also born in Falmouth.   I wonder if  John senior and Abednigo were brothers? This might mean that my ancestor, James Henry (born Plymouth circa 1820) might be one of their sons and brother/cousin to your John. Unfortunately I have not been able to trace him prior to living in London.
I made contact several yearsago with a lady from Portsmouth researching her husbands family - he was from the King family - I believe Robert Stone King married Harriett Ann Terlour?
I have got lots of name sof Terlours I have found in BMD and Censuses , but nothing else about the earlier ones.
Hope this helps,

Sally

Hello Jackie,
I also think Terlour has possibly come from Trelour, Tellore etc as a result of being mis-spelt. But the fact that there are so few in all the records, makes me wonder were they all from the same original family, or were there lots of different people mis-spelling their names?!
At the moment these are the branches I know of :-
My own branch in London from James Henry who came from Plymouth.
The branch in Plymouth.
TheTerlours in Cornwall.
The branch in Hampshire, living in Portsmouth/Alverstoke.
That seems to be all there is. I assumed thatnthey originated in Cornwall and then moved away to find work.
I have been compiling a list of any Terlours (or any one resembling the name)for some time. If you give me details of your Terlours, I will see if I have got anything else on them.

Regards,

Sally
