Lancashire Lookup Requests / Re: 1861 Census Address query Heaton Norris

Thanks for the lookups... I think Halls Court is the most likely address. Unfortunately I can't access many of the above links so I don't know what they are referring to. I did access the Street name site... Many thanks. Jim

Lancashire Lookup Requests / 1861 Census Address query Heaton Norris
« on: Saturday 05 December 20 20:32 GMT (UK)  »
I have my great grandfather Michael Sheehan with his mother Mary and brother Jeremiah in the 1861 census RG 9/2561 Heaton Norris Christchurch. The address is difficult to read but looks like 3 Holoms Court. The next street is ??vis Street which after consulting a map of 1878 could be Travis Street. I am attempting to find exactly where they lived and a possible solution would be to look at the census details that cover the same area for 1851 and 1871 to see if they are legible. I would much appreciate it if someone could check these details for me.
I know what happened to Mary and my ggrandfather Michael, but Jeremiah disappears completely after this census.... Jim

Thanks for that Ray.... looks like the houses didn't sell and he couldn't repay his loan to the London Land Company. The irony is that all the houses he built in the terrace are now priced at over a million pounds each!

I'd like to find out as much as possibly and hopefully find some photographs of Samuel & his family. I have done this with my own family by tracing living relatives with photographs passed down through their families but with a name as common as Adams it could prove to be more difficult.

Thanks for the speedy reply.... Samuel went from being a builder employing 20 men to running a coffee shop on Peckham Rye! I just had a quick look but unfortunately 74 has been demolished to make way for a new block of flats. Apologies for forgetting to put in the original address... 49 Belvoir Road, or 1 Trocadero Villas as it was known then.

The next occupant was a Policeman, Hugh Grant from Scotland... now what stories could he tell?

London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / Adams family after 1881...

Samuel Enoch Adams built the terrace where I live in 1881. He was also living in my house when the 1881 census was taken. Unfortunately he was declared bankrupt later the same year and doesn't reappear in 1891. I am researching the history of my house which is partly constructed using Joseph Tall's patented concrete shuttering system. Joseph lived next door. What I would like to know is what happened next to the Adams family?

Samuel Enoch Adams 35
Emma Anne Adams 31
Emma A 10
Samuel W 9
Harry J 4
Gertrude M 2
Elizabeth E 9m
Clara Beckford 15 Gen Servant

I know more about Clara than I do about the Adams so any help much appreciated. Jim

Thank you all for this information... I have a photograph which includes Maggie and I've never been entirely sure which of the 4 older girls she is, so hopefully I will eventually be able to name them all correctly.

Thanks for that..... gradually building up a picture. She was my grandfather's sister and I'm attempting to find out if there are any descendants around today as I have photographs to share.
