Chris
I know this was dealt with along time ago, but people may still be interested and it I apologize for reawakening this mystery. I am a descendant of Robert Maddock, the brother of Susannah Dodd's father William. Robert resided at the following:
1871 - Brook Cottage
1861 - Brook Cottage
1851 - Brook House
1841 - Marton - no address, obviously
I have visited Marton to see if I could find where this was, as no joy on the google maps - Noone could help me though!
Anyway, the other day I discovered this:
http://maps.cheshire.gov.uk/tithemaps/I typed in the name Maddock for Whitegate and came up with Robert Maddock occupying plot 219 which appears to be his house. When compared with a map from 1875 and 1901, this plot is immediately to the east of plot 725, which is Brookside Farm. When checking who owned plot 725, the occupier is Joseph Macfall. Unfortunately, when you select a view of a modern map, you discover that Brookside Farm no longer exists and Brook Cottage is now a lake! It seems that the buildings of Robert's home disappeared sometime between 1871 and 1875, but Brookside Farm still existed in 1910. It was situated approximately halfway between modern day Foxtwist Green Farm and Gale Green Farm.
It seems to me from below that it was decided that the Susannah Dodds who was Robert Maddock's niece did not die in 1897 at Brookside Farm. Can you confirm that is the case, because it seems you and I are related, and I wonder if you still think this is the case.
Many thanks
Ed
