Hello and thank you for this information. Unfortunately Leon Petulengro is not the person I was searching for. I found a lot of info about the one I was looking for and have come to a dead end, you can see the results of my search by looking at http://www.petulengro.co.uk.

Many thanks again and kind regards  :)

I have since done much more research and have discovered who my 'Petulengro' was.

His name was Harold Moss - I have quite a bit of documentary evidence to confirm this, so thank you all so very much for all your bits of information which have helped steer me in the right direction and led me to meet some lovely people. I can now positively confirm that my Petulengro aka Harold Moss was absolutely not Leon or Xavier. Harol Moss lived and died in Stock, Essex.

Of course - it doesn't end here! I am now on a mission to find all of the band members and their names. I have started a very rudimentary website dedicated to Petulengro and his Lady Hussars - you can see it at http://www.petulengro.co.uk so if anyone has any further information on the band members or any of their engagements I would dearly love to hear about them.

Thank you all, once again for your interest and participation.

Hello Nicola

I was the one who orignally started this thread as I was looking for my aunt whom I found and a bit of info of the band she was in. Sadly the Petulengro I am researching is not the same Petulengro to whom you are related. There are a few replies above indicating that they may be the same but they are not, so any information I have on the ones I was tracing will not be much use to you I think but of course you are welcome to see all I found anyway (which sadly, isn't much) I have created a website that contains pretty much all I have discovered to date. I am still searching! The website is located at http://www.petulengro.co.uk

Good luck in your searching

Kind regards

William

That is exactly what I thought and assumed until you see the beautifully written document from the archives and in this case there is absolutely no doubt that the word is Lodgley. I have tried as you suggest but that yielded no results I'm afraid, so I am a bit mystified - until I know for sure differently I guess I have to assume its Sedgley and the army clerk got it wrong

Hi Casalguidi

Yes indeed, thank you - I did find all that info per your suggestion and I also got hold of his army record from the war office records; and we have him! The wierd thing is that on his records he is noted as being from LODGLEY - there is no such place, but near Wolverhampton there is a place called Sedgely, I am sure it must be here, there are other Bartholomew Cox's I have found around there but if anyone has any different ideas I woul like to hear them.

Once again, very many thanks for your interest & info

Kind Regards

William

Thank Monique, yes I found it a little while ago and downloaded it - it is very poor quality - even the high res one but at least one can see it - I have a link to it on my website too - very nice archive

Staffordshire / Lodgley

Hi All

Once again I make an enquiry about LODGLEY - I posted a note previously about this and it was suggested it could be Sedgley and in fact I think it probably is but, within the last few days we received the service record from  NA for this person and there is absolutely no mistaking it - it says Lodgley on there - in beautiful handwriting - absolutely no doubt, he signed up in 1817 and even tho I am orginally from Wolverhampton and know the area very well I am just grasping at straws in case this place actually used to exist before I lay it to bed and assume its Sedgley

Thanks ever so much

William
