Cornwall / Bray family of St. Mabyn
« on: Wednesday 11 September 19 12:57 BST (UK)  »
Just got back into my family-treeing after a long break and have immediately hit a solid brick wall. Have William Bray, baptised in St. Mabyn 18/12/1642 and married to Elizabeth Thomas 24/10/1670. His father another William, who was possibly baptised 15/3/1618 in St. Mabyn with siblings Christopher (30/4/1615) and Anne (12/5/1622), and parents William and Anne, but thatīs as far as I can get. Nothing further in Cornwall OPC, Find My Past or Family Search (what have they done with that btw? Type in Cornwall and get every area of the UK!) Please tell me that there is someone out there who can help?

South Africa / Re: Cornish immigrants to South Africa

Hi all and a Happy New Year :D! Have just discovered that a relative left Cornwall at some time after 1901 and died in Johannesburg in 1937. His name was Samuel James Trebell Stuthridge, a blacksmith, and he probably travelled with his wife Helena and son Horace. Canīt find any trace of him in any of the Passenger Lists Iīve been able to access and Iīm sure he didnīt walk there! Can anyone help?

Regards

The Common Room / Re: Genes Reunited in trouble

I came on here to ask if anyone else was having this problem. AVG wonīt allow me to use the site at all this morning and IE strongly advises me not to go into it. Spent the weekend accumulating a mass of information which I had planned to add to my tree today. Am not amused.

Iīm always amazed at the speed of the replies on Rootschat - very much appreciated. 1771 was an approximate dob for Elizabeth; she could, of course, have been born much earlier. As she didnīt marry John until 1791 itīs also possible that it could have been a second marriage for her, but this isnīt indicated in the Parish Register. Either death could be hers, though the Elizabeth shown living in Fore St. in 1841 has her son William, aged 40, with her and this could be my William though he is shown as a Cordwainer and I have him in later censuses as a Tin Streamer.

Iīm surprised that, as his brother Richard was Town Clerk for a long time, there seems to be so little information online about Richard. Iīd been hoping to discover his parentage on someoneīs family tree!

Cornwall / The Brays and Polkinghornes of Bodmin

I keep coming back to this important part of my tree and hit the same brick wall every time. A direct ancestor is William Bray born 1801 in Bodmin to John and Elizabeth. If my information is correct, his brother Richard was Town Clerk of Bodmin for some years, but it is John and Elizabeth I am interested in. She was born Elizabeth Polkinghorne in around 1771 and at her marriage to John Bray 2/12/1792 in Bodmin was shown as being "of this parish". Canīt find her anywhere. I had John as perhaps being born around 1767, but am working on the theory that he may have been the John born to Richard Bray and Rebecca Blake 12/12/1762 in Bodmin. If anyone can give me a nudge in the right direction I will be extremely grateful.

Cornwall / Re: Charles Haley of Cardinham

Thankyou so much for that all of that information - it hadnīt occurred to me that the Charles I was looking for, who married Ann Smith in Padstow, was born so much earlier than I had reckoned on and could be the one bp in 1746. Your information makes perfect sense. I already have notes on all of the descendents of Nicholas and Miriam Willcock (nče Bunt) and the fact that "my" Charles named two of his children Nicholas and Miriam indicated that they were related. I greatly appreciate all of your help and will enjoy tying the information into my tree.

Blimey - that was quick! Unfortunately thoough, not much help, as I am unable to find a birth/baptism for my Charles, Martin Gilbertīs father and canīt find him on the Cornwall OPC, Family Search, Geni, Wiki, Find My Past or anywhere else. I need to make a connection between him and the family in Broadoak, which must exist.

Cornwall / Charles Haley of Cardinham
« on: Saturday 14 July 18 14:42 BST (UK)  »
Hi! I have managed to trace my Haley family back to Charles, born around 1770 in Cardinham, who married Ann and had Charles in 1794, William in 1797 and Martin Gilbert in 1804.Is I have Charles born 1746 in Braddock (Broadoak) who married Margaret Saunders in 1773 and who was buried in Cardinham, but am completely unable to connect the two. Cannot find a Charles born to Charles and Margaret, so he could be the son of one of the brothers - Nicholas, Thomas, Abraham or William. Can anyone help?
