Canada Lookup Request / Re: MCOWAN Montreal
« on: Wednesday 21 February 18 00:54 GMT (UK)  »
I'm researching the McEwen/McEwan side. That is Mary Ann's Mothers family and Mary Ann was Christened as a McEwen.  Hellen/Ellen is my Great Grandfather's sister. It appears Mary Ann never lived with her and was with her Grandparents. Have never been able to find a birth (c1833), marriage or death for her or anything on the supposed father James Sharp.

Am I right in thinking that Mary Ann and Charles didn't have any children?
I notice that witnesses for death of Mary Ann were Charles (husband?) and Andrew (Nephew?)

Witness for Charles' death was another Charles McCowan. Would this be a son or nephew?  Do you know?

Have you got any details of passenger lists or ships or dates that Mary Ann and Charles went to Canada? You mentioned your Grandfather and his brother Andrew also went to Canada, what date was that?

Sorry for all the questions :)

Thank you for posting. Yes, I am still looking for this family :)

Only last July I managed to locate where Mary Ann was buried and had tried to get a photo of the grave, without any luck.

I don't have much more information than I have already said. Would be grateful if you can help in any way.

Still cannot find anymore on her Mother Helen/Ellen McEWAN

Thanks Dermo and eadaoin.

Every bit of information helps for future research.

I have a go at finding out more on this family every few years. Put it aside and then go back again. One day it will all come together.

I've just worked out how to do the search ;D

James was a tailor so he might have moved around a bit. I'm working on information from my Grandfather's marriage (William) details in Scotland and was told by his grandson that he was born in Dublin.

Only details I have are William was born c 1851-1852 in Dublin and his parents were James KEOGH, a tailor and Mary DOYLE. I was very lucky when someone found the death information for James and I received that. James was 69 when he died in 1864. Just gave the mark of his wife Mary. I have had no success in finding a death for Mary, as yet. I believe there were at least 2 spinster sisters to William who remainded in Dublin and ran some sort of business. Was told one might be named Connie. So far I haven't been able to trace them either.

Thanks very much Shane. I'll check out the link.

I have been on irishgenealogy site today, but I might be doing something wrong. ::) If I put in a year that was the only result I got. I started to look by the Churches but didn't seem to be getting anywhere there either.

Can I just do a search for the surname between certain dates?

I have the death for my Great grandfather (Jamed KEOGH) in 1864. The address for his residence is 4 Montague Street  District of No 3 South Dublin.

I am trying to work out what Church the family would have attended. I believe they might have been Roman Catholic.

If anyone can give me any ideas of the nearest Church to Montague Street around 1864, that would be great. I'm hoping to be able to get Baptisms for his children etc. I'm not having a great deal of success. :(

Thanks for any help :)
