Warwickshire / suicides and burials
« on: Saturday 08 May 10 18:44 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

in 1910-1914   if someone committed suicide would it be the law that they were placed in an unmarked grave?  (as in not allowed to have a religious ceremony .... )

my gg grandfather took his own life in 1910 (of unsound mind his death cert reads.. )

also my ggm died in the same circumstances 4 yrs later,     she was an inmate of the union workhouse.   is it more than likely the workhouse paid for her funeral and where would she most likely be buried ?  i know warwick hospital is now in the location of where the workhouse used to be,  where would the burial place of been ?

If anyone is familiar with the town of Leamington and could help me with these queries id really appreciate it

thank you

Ayrshire / New Cumnock Cemetery
« on: Thursday 06 May 10 20:04 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

i was wondering if anyone could give me some information on this cemetery.   Is it large/small/medium sized,   is it still open for burials?

Basically my gf is buried there,    and if its a tiny cemetery i was wondering if someone wouldnt mind having a look for his grave for me & taking a photograph.

If its a large cemetery then of course i wouldnt expect someone to go searching for hours and id be happy to get in touch with the records place and get a plot location number.

Can anyone offer me any information on this site please.

Kind thanks

Ayrshire / Annick Lodge Ayrshire AITKEN help needed please.
« on: Tuesday 27 April 10 20:26 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

can somebody please help me out.

my ggm Elizabeth Aitken was born at Annick Lodge on 19th July  1900,     she gave birth to my grandmother Hannah Aitken in 1917 at East Lodge Girgente Ayrshire but my grandmother is registered as illigitamate

What are the chances of finding the father?   Im assuming my ggm worked there and from what i read it was a hotel/pub it could easily of been a one night stand.  my gt grandmother married in 1920 to a Dryesdale,  but im presuming had he been the father then my gm would of automatically taken his name from day 1.

Any thoughts or suggestions you could give me would be greatly appreciated.  Do people ever have any success in finding fathers names when children are registered as illigitimate?

Warwickshire Lookup Requests / Green family Aston/Erdington
« on: Sunday 04 April 10 12:29 BST (UK)  »
my Gt Gf was Frederick Green born in either 1878/79  (he was 22 on 1901 census)   and he died on 9th March 1929 aged 50.

I have details of his wife and children so dont need help with them thanks,   im wanting to go futher down his line.

On Fredericks  marriage certificate it reads: his father was JOSEPH GREEN - metal roller

I have found joseph Green (Erdington) who married Louisa Bird (Middleton) and im just not 100% sure that ive got the right line i keep thinking i have but theres a niggling feeling telling me its wrong.

Could someone double check that im on the right line please.

Many thanks

« on: Sunday 04 April 10 11:46 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

I ws wondering if anyone could offer me any tips/suggestions please.

Nancy Blackwell born 5 August 1897 at Leamington Warwickshire

(never married)  & died at Pittville Lawn Nursing Home Cheltenham Glouc 1992.

on her death certificate her occupation is unreadable but it has come to our knowledge that her bible had been found and a descendant thought she was a nun.

Does anyone know of any convents in the area that she may of been a part of?    I just dont know how to go about finding anymore information about her.

Thank you  :)

Warwickshire Lookup Requests / Warwick Union Workhouse
« on: Tuesday 08 December 09 12:44 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,

I'm very interested in the above workhouse -

my Gt Gt Grandmother was in there in the 1891 census with her 3 mth old daughter

Mary Ann Blackwell (nee Thompson)
Ann Elizabeth  (or Elizabeth)  (3 months old)

they are both still there in the 1901 census.

Im particularly interested as to why they were admitted  (her husband and 4 other children were still living in Leamington and he went onto meet another partner and have another 2 children) I personally question the 3 mth old childs father.
Also i'm intersted in medical records,  and  when did they leave the workhouse (if they did?)

I have ordered the childs birth certificate,  and am currently awaiting to hear from warwick record office with what information they hold so i can pay for a research service to be done.

I was kindly directed to this site by another so if anybody  could perhaps help me with any information/look ups it would be greatly appreciated.    Ive read P Higginsbotham wonderful site on Warwick im just after more,  i seem to have an obsession with this particular workhouse!!

I apologise if this should of been posted in another area,  ive been having problems with the search facility and it keeps coming up error.

Kind Regards
