Lancashire / Family Grave
« on: Friday 12 March 10 22:57 GMT (UK)  »
Another one I need help with

I have found out that my Grandmother who died in 1976  in Salford was laid to rest in a family plot but my mother has long since lost the grave papers. I know that my siblings would like to be laid to rest with her if possible one day. Is it too late to find out if we still have the right or is there anyway we can replace the paperwork? Mum is 78 and couldn't cope with such details but she would be happy for us to sort it out?

Thanks for any advice given

Graveyards and Gravestones / Ashes Not Collected
« on: Friday 12 March 10 22:49 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

This is something that is very personal to me and probably has no answer but here goes...
Would there be any way I could find out what became of a family members ashes that were never collected from 1978!!

Southern Cemetery Crematorium -  Manchester?

I can hardly just ring up and ask about them I presume? Would they have just been thrown away? (sniff sniff) Is there a standard procedure for that sort of thing? I really need to know once and for all what would have happened to them as its a very close family member.

Any advice apreciated

« on: Friday 05 March 10 00:17 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

Here is another one for you if you are sick of my Tierneys lol

Alexander born circa 1898/9 Salford Manchester and living in 17  Halton Street Hulme Manchester at time of Marriage in 1921( and also in the Great Roll of Honour for WW1)
Son of a George Dutton possible match for my Alex=  River Street Hulme in 1911

I think his mother may be Fanny Hurst but if anyone has information on this family or knows of a way to find out who else was living in Halton Street in thie time span between 1911 and 1921 ......

I would really like to locate his family for sure ...Alexander was my grandfather  married to Catherine Tierney (we have been here before!) and had children John, Kenneth, Alexander, Frank, George Gorton(my dad) and Joan.

Alexander died in 1943 in Moston Barracks Lightbowne rd Manchester. Last known address Gorton Manchester.

If anyone can give me any ideas on matching him to his parents for definite please let me know

thanks once again folks

World War One / War Records for WW1 and WW2
« on: Wednesday 24 February 10 01:03 GMT (UK)  »
Hello could anyone help me out pleeeese :'(

My grandad Alexander Dutton is buried at the Cenotaph in Southern Cemetery. He died in the barracks there whilst serving with the Royal Artillery We would like to get his war records. However by some miracle of a kind person with a beady eye we have been shown that he is also in the Roll of Honour for .WW1!! aparently he recieved 3 medals - the 1914-15 Star And General Service and Victory Medals(no idea where they went)  and served in Messopotamia and took a prominent  part in the Battle of Nasiryeh was interned  with his regiment at Kut.  - he served with the Welch Fusilers. He was only about 17 at this time...maybe he lied about his age?

My questions are
1) are his war records held in different places as he served in 2 World Wars? Where do I apply for them?

2) I read the earlier posts about info being available on Ancestory...I do not have access to this is there any other way i can find out this information...Also would his service no. be different in each war? hmmmm?

£) is it possible to find photo's other information from this battle somewhere?

many thanks

Lancashire / Tierneys of Hulme and Liverpool
« on: Monday 15 February 10 19:16 GMT (UK)  »
I would dearly love if anyone can help with my brick wall. I have John Tierney  Shoemaker b circa 1858 Liverpool living in Hulme Manchester in 1901 census with his wife Catherine b 1864 Sheffield...(I have located her and she was a child of Lydia and Francis Lister sheffield). However my Tierneys are something of a mystery prior to this...I have found a possible match for John Tierney but i cannot locate any trace of his brother Samuel born circa 1875 Liverpool? I know from the marriage Cert of John and Catherine (wich did not take place till 1921!!) that they were both married before but i do not know who John was married to....Catherine ran off from her 5 children of previous marriage Charming!!)
Also John gives fathers name as Michael ,labourer but i also have a Michael Carney with a daughter Elizabeth b  Circa 1891 listed as a brother in law in the 1911 census if that helps(pause for breath)

John and Catherine had children Samuel, Thomas and Catherine...that I know of - I would dearly love to get in touch with descendants as we are closely related

thanks for any help you can offer

Wicklow / Thomas Carney c1862 Wicklow?
« on: Saturday 13 February 10 03:41 GMT (UK)  »
I have a Thomas Carney(gas stoker)  appearing in my family tree in the 1911 Census in Hulme Manchester living with John Tierney (shoemaker) and his family. Thomas has a daughter Elizabeth c1891 she being born liverpool lancs but he states Wicklow? He is a widower. If anyone has any ideas on how to trace both him and his connection to my Tierneys - as they are proving elusive to trace also, i would be very grateful. John Tierney and his brother Samuel c1875 both state birth as Liverpool? John has a father called Michael according to his marriage cert. If anyone has any connections or clues please advise as i am a novice at this....

thanks lads
