Immigrants & Emigrants - General / Massive Mystery .... Spanish Immigrant???
« on: Monday 19 September 16 12:59 BST (UK)  »
First, let me start by saying if you solve this, or can even shed some light on this, then we'll be eternally grateful!! I hope I explain this well....

My partner is John Finnie

His mother and father are David Finnie and Anthea F Browne

http://trees.ancestry.co.uk/tree/71826358/family

We are trying to find out where the DeOwenslly/De Oweneley Came from.

What we know: DeOwensley (and it's other variants on this tree) is a completely made up name, not showing up anywhere else in the world. There are currently only about 4 males with this name left alive. - So, if you find posts from another guy with this name, he's part of the family and we know about him. I think he lives in Dorset.

The story is that Gurvilliam/Guilliame came to England in 1903/1904 with his father Jasper, apparently on a ship, which Jasper was the captain.

I can't find any records at all for Jasper at all

When Gurvilliam died, his wife had to hand his documents into the Spanish Embassy. Apparently, the man receiving the documents commented that it's best not ask anything about his life and to leave things be.....

There's also Katrina/Katerona/Katrona Maslova kicking about but we're not sure where she fits in. One of Gurvilliam's daughters has Maslova as a middle name.

I have the 1911 census copy stating that they lived in gateshead and Gurvilliam had been in the country 7 years. Also I have the death record for him and the probate record but it doesn't point out any other info.,

Anyone got a clue where we should start looking next??

Hi. It's AGES since I've been here but I'm back and needing your help....

Can anyone have a look for me and find out what they can about Elsie Kelly, who lived on Cemeterey Road in Gateshead until her death in the early 1980s, please?

She's possibly Margaret Elsie but that's not 100%.

I'm presuming she was a relative of my Grandma, born Annie Eileen Kelly (1913-2007)

I found her obituary cut out from the local paper in my Grandma's , but as far as I'm aware, I never met or heard of Elsie.

Any help gratefully accepted! x

I'm guessing this is gonna be like looking for the proverbial needle....?

I'm looking for Patrick Kelly, born 1878 who ended up in Gateshead, England by 1909 where he married his wife, Margaret McDonald. His father, Michael, was a farmer.

I don't know anything else and was hoping for a bit of info.

Roxburghshire / Turnbulls in Roxburghshire
« on: Tuesday 15 June 10 22:25 BST (UK)  »
Hi. I'm looking to see if anyone has any information on, or indeed, any links to Turnbulls in Roxburghshire.

My grandfather was Frederick Turnbull Born 1905 in Chester-le-Street, County Durham.

His father, my Great-Grandfather was Walter George Turnbull who was born around 1881 in Hymount, Roxburghshire. I can't find any information on a place called Hymount. Do you think it was transcribed incorrectly from the 1911 census? I also can't find any records online for his birth. Any ideas on where to go other than ordering lots of certificates?

Thanks in anticipation.

The Common Room / Help me, please, someone?
« on: Monday 07 June 10 22:27 BST (UK)  »
Hi. I've got a problem and I'm hoping someone could try and help;

My Dad's dad was Frederick Turnbull - born 1905 in Chester-le-Street. I can find birth records for him.

Frederick's father was called Walter George Turnbull. I can't find any birth record for him, but I have a feeling he may have been an Irish immigrant so maybe that's why.

Now, I can find a marriage certificate for a Walter George Turnbull who married Beatrice Johnson in December 1902 in Chester-le-Street. He was 21 at the time so he would've been born in about 1881. On the marriage certificate, his occupation is described as 'Traveller', so would this tie in with being from Ireland at all?

My father says that his Walter George Turnbull was born around 1869 and died at the Somme around 1916, but I've been unable to find him on the 'Debt of Honour' register. I can, however, find a Walter George Turnbull who died in Chester-le-Street in 1930....

Does anyone have any ideas as to where I go from here? I'm so confused and I have a feeling that I may be looking at the wrong family tree!

I hope I've explained myself clearly. Apologies if I haven't. Just ask me if you need clarification on anything.
