Sussex / Samuel Newton b.1805 Lewes
« on: Thursday 08 January 09 14:38 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All,

It has been a while since I posted here, so thought I might re-post regarding a brick-wall I have in case anyone out there might be able to help.

I have a Samuel NEWTON, born Lewes in 1805.  I have his descendent line to me (he married Anna-Maria AKEHURST) etc, lived in Fletching.  You can see the line at http://www.darrenroberts.net/page9.htm.

So far, I have not been able to find anything out about his birth/baptism or his parents.  The date  of 1805 and birth in Lewes come from census records.  I have checked (couple of years ago) the baptism registers at the county records office and found nothing.

Has anyone else been researching this family or can anyone make a suggestion as to where to look next? I know his next stop from Lewes was Ringmer (coachman).

cheers!

Sussex / NEWTON, Lewes - help !
« on: Friday 18 November 05 11:18 GMT (UK)  »
Dear All,

Apologies to those who may have seen this appeal elsewhere on t'internet, but here goes:

I have a Samuel NEWTON in my tree, born 1805 in Lewes.  This evidence comes from the various census records for Sussex.  He died in 1888 in Fletching.

In January 1832, he marries Anna Marie AKEHURST at St Nicks, Brighton and they go onto have various children.  The end up living in the Chailey and Fletching area.

My brickwall is that I know nothing about Samuel NEWTON's parents.  I have looked at various baptism indexes - nothing.  The marriage index for St Nicks does not give parents names either.

Any ideas?!!!  I'd really love to be able to push my NEWTON line back a generation.

cheers - Darren, in East Grinstead
