Family History Beginners Board / unmarked communal graves
« on: Monday 17 October 22 05:42 BST (UK)  »
In case this helps others....
when tracing burials of my grt/grandad (d1912 Catford) and grandad (d1950 Lewisham) I contacted their 'Lewisham Council' -where they had both lived/died.

The Council directed me onto their Public Library's 'local studies' unit which holds all burial records for each of their 5 cemeteries.

They were found to be in separate cemeteries ('Ladywell' & 'Hither Green') - (sadly) in  'communal unmarked' graves. (buried with about 6 others who had died same week -just one small statue for one of the  others)

Fortunately I was permitted to leave them both 'non-bio-degradable plastic' notices (+peg).  (+small glass dome of flowers).

(my own local funeral parlour (in Aus) prepared the notices (freely) -they use them as a temporary measure - but in my/'our' case - permanent)

Please can someone help check the Bastardy File/s -now 'on-line) -by the Ipswich Records Office?
They have kindly sent me their 'site' -but I'm 'floundering' on it -and cannot seem to find what I'm looking for!  Any help would be greatly appreciated.   (have waited years to get this far).    I have:

James Moss Mortimer b1796  born 'Ashfield-cum-Thorpe to ANNE MORTIMER b1758 (nee Rowe)
George Mortimer*      b1798     "           "                 "           "             "                    "

(Both sons born AFTER Anne's husband Robert MORTIMER d 1793)  Maybe a Mr MOSS involved?

*George being my 5x g/g'father

Any help greatly appreciated.

Hi - I've been trying to find/reach the name of 'MORIARTY' on the 'M' page of 'Surname Interests' -it says there's over 3,000 'M's -yet it stops at the 'Mac's surnames.  How can I reach  'MORIARTY'?

Derry (Londonderry) / GARVIN William b 1798-9 Derry (convict)-NSW 1828
« on: Saturday 27 April 13 05:41 BST (UK)  »
Please can anyone help with tracing BACK the family of William GARVIN b 1798-9 from Derry transported to NSW 1828.  'Believed' to have been from Castledawson (Macosquin ?) - and left  behind 'a wife and child'.  We have details of his (new) life in NSW ... but nothing pre NSW -in Derry.  (another (Garvin) researcher suggests he was possibly from Macosquin).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
