Isle of Man / Albert Dealtrey who ran The Colonade Cafe
« on: Wednesday 08 March 17 20:08 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to locate where my Gt Grandad was buried... He ran the Colonade cafe, Victoria St Isle of Man  it was very busy from dawn to dusk. He served from the hot grill at the window. Wife Peg ( Margaret who was from Rosslare) did all the cooking. He died from TB sadly.

Name   Albert Richard Dealtry
Age   47 Years
Birth Year   abt 1881
Burial Date   27 Jan 1928
Burial Place   Onchan, Isle of Man
Biography   47 years
URL   http://www.imuseum.im/search/people/

Two Dublin girls Nancy and Polly and Mary Brennan came from Crosby to help in the cafe. In the yard was a little shed below the Grand Theatre and next door lived Mrs Dobson ( Dobbie) who peeled the potatoes! Albert Dealtrey's  brother Frank did all the menial tasks.  Albert had TB and was grumpy because of it, given the family history he probably had arteriosclerosis as well. Just as they had taken on the Loch Promenade Hotel he died. Peg had to take on this and the cafe.

In 1928 they moved to the Bray House Hotel later called The Gresham and it was used as a WRNS HQ during the war.
Can anyone help me determine if he had a headstone? His wife and daughter and son moved away after his death up to Lancashire.

Albert R Dealtrey
My Gt Grandad was born abt 1880 in Newington, London, England and died 27 jan 1928 in douglas , isle of man, buried in Douglas buried Cmemtary somewhere.......He also used to run The Colonade Cafe on the Pier. His wife Margaret (Peg) was from Rosslare, they had 3 children Sydney, Kathleen who died of Tb and Eileen. I can't track where Kathleen is buried, she died aged 21 of TB.

Would there be any photos of the cafe or hotel from the 20s? How would I go about finding his grave if it still exists and Kathleen's grave? My grandad Sydney was devastated by the death of his sister, he also contracted TB but was sent to a sanitorium by M&S who he worked for and survived.

Durham Lookup Requests / Mary Heron of Staindrop
« on: Monday 27 August 12 19:12 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find out about my dad's  Gt Gt GT Grandather Richard Dealtry b. roughly 1791 in Staindrop. He worked as a Whipper-In at Raby Estate for the Duke of Cleveland and was later a Huntsman there. He married twice first to Jane Parnaby who sadly died in 1820 in childbirth and their daughter Ann died at 2 weeks old. She is buried in the churchyard at Staindrop. He then married Mary Heron. In the 1841 census he is an Inn Keeper in New Shildon, St Andrew Aukland parish aged 51. Were there many inns in New Shildon? Is there any way I can trace which Inn he was Inn Keeper at? he is wrongly transcribed as Richard Destessy!!!!! We still get people spelling my dad's names all sorts of wierd ways. To us dealtreys the census obviously says DEALTRY.  Mary(45) right age for Mary heron his wife: Jane: Richard:Mary:Elizabeth:Christopher: Hannah: Sarah:Emma: Elizabeth all correct as his children.
he died in 1844 for which we have a death registration.
Mary Heron lives in Sedgefield as a widow in the 1851 census with Eliza and Harriet surname again wrongly transcribed this time it's Bealty!!

Any help anyone can suggest as to tracing his parents or birth would be so very gratefully received. Durham county records couldn't help other than saying he did die in 1844 but they think he fudged his age when alive so we don't know for definate his birth year only that it's around 1791!!!!  Also that he worked at Raby Castle as a Huntsman and then an Inn Keeper in new Shildon. Are there any local records I could try? :|

Perhaps if I can find out more about Mary Heron it may help  their marriage is in the Bishop's Transcripts. I'm not sure where she is born, she is living in Staindrop when they marry......

Lincolnshire Lookup Requests / Frederick Smith born in Aplleby 1843
« on: Friday 06 July 12 21:49 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find out more about Frederick Smith b.1843 in Appleby. He married Mary Ann b.1845. In 1881 he was living in Mirfield  with 7 children. He was a locomotive engine driver. Our mystery is when my gran died she left a very old china house with the name
William Smith 1842
on it. All we knew was it was from her mum's side of the family. One of Frederick children was Clement Reed Smith who married Fanny Harrison, my gran's aunt.

My assumption is looking at birth dates that is Frederick was born 1843 then it is possible he had a brother William born 1842? Perhaps the house was a gift on the event of his birth? It's a lovely item and it would be so great if we could match a name to it.  I can't track frederick's birth though or find him in the census of 1871/ 1861/1851 to find out who his parents or siblings were. There can't have been too many Frederick Smiths born in Appleby in 1843, at least I hope not! William if he was Frederick's brother would have been my Gran's Great Uncle?

Isle of Man / Bray House Hotel, Cafe Colonade and Albert Dealtrey
« on: Friday 06 July 12 14:25 BST (UK)  »
In 1920 my gt grandmother Margaret Walsh ( from Rosslare) and her husband Albert Dealtrey moved to Isle of Man and ran the Colonade Cafe together. They had 3 children, Sydney Albert Dealtrey my grandad, Eileen and Kathleen. Kathleen sadly died at 21 from TB.

Possibly Albert had TB and was grumpy because of it, given the family history he probably had arteriosclerosis as well. Just as they had taken on the Loch Promenade hotel he died. Aunt Peg had to take on this and the cafe.

In 1928 they moved to the Bray House Hotel later called The Gresham and it was used as a WRNS HQ during the war. They were there until 1930s.

Does anyone know anything about them or the hotels or cafes they ran, are there any old images?

One of my grandad's holiday jobs as a young man was putting out the deckchairs on the promenade! Grandad, Sydney Dealtrey also had a job in  a chemists off broadway.

Isle of Man / Emilie Elizabeth Christian ( nee Harrison)
« on: Friday 06 July 12 14:17 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to track down what happened to my gt grandmother's sister Emilie Elizabeth Harrison. Born 1876 Birkby Huddfd, Yorkshire, England she married
Arthur Fell Christian b. 1878 in Castletown, Isle of Man. In the 1922 census they are listed as living at Compton House, Castletown, Isle of Man. her husband is a Draper.
Emilie is 35 he is 32.
Arthur's parents were Charles Christian b.1844 and Sarah Caroline Isabe Fell. b.1844.

We know Arthur died in 1924 and I can't seem  to find any children for them but I also can't find Emilie after the 1911 census under her married or maiden name.....
I wondered if I could locate a grave for him if it would have details of if she was still alive on it, or even still his wife...... Can anyone suggest how else I may find Emilie after 1911? I've searched through Ancestry and come up empty handed sadly. :-\

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Dealtrey in newington 1880s
« on: Wednesday 25 August 10 14:57 BST (UK)  »
My dad's family came from Scruton bedale in yorks, the oonly ancestor I have is Richard Dealtrey b 1847 in Fornton and married Ann Pearse, in 1881 they were living in Newignton, london.
they had amy, albert, frederick, florence and daisy.
Albert r dealtrey  b 1880  married margaret walsh  and was my  gt grandfather and he had  albert sydney my grandad in 1913.

Looking at Richard b 1847 in fornton it gets confusing there seem to be a few possible matches all born in and around Scruton Bedale!!  I have his mariage cert which just lists his father as richard dealtrey! Not much help when there's more than one with that name and same birth year in the same area.

Does anyone have any dealtreys  or daltrys in their family trees for north yorkshie?
