Anglesey / William Evans b. LLanfinhangel Yscefiog
« on: Thursday 02 February 17 18:04 GMT (UK)  »
Hello to all, hoping someone out there can offer any ideas on linking the above gent on my tree to one on Donnaps tree.
We both have a William Evans in our family tree, mine was the brother of my Gt grandmother Catherine Evans and the son of William Evans a collier/miner and Ellen Owen b.1828 at Llanfinhangel Yscefiog and apart from a record in Anglesey baptisms and the 1841 census for the area with his family he then disappears. I have searched death records and later census but no luck.

After my postings on this forum I was contacted by Donnap who thought we may have a connection and at the time I could see none apart from the parents names and his age there were a few of them that could be a possibility but none with his fathers profession apart from my family. Her William Evans turned up in Australia and married there in 1860 were he states his parents are as mentioned above and his fathers profession is miner, and came from North Wales it is also gives his age at marriage as 30 yrs so would possibly tie in. This William Evans became a lighthouse keeper at Cape Otway in Victoria but at his marriage was a sailor.

What I am asking is there any other avenues that anyone can suggest we follow to tie these two together, i.e seamanship records etc that may be local. I am now feeling certain that they are one and the same man and it would be great to think we have found a link at either end of the globe.

All help or suggestions as always is much appreciated . L.B

Isle of Man / Presentments
« on: Friday 04 March 16 17:10 GMT (UK)  »
Hi can anyone tell me please if these records can be viewed by anyone and if so is it only in person and situ on the Island.

My other question is what do these records entail, would they be for general complaints, judgements or bastardy? I have read that Family Search were going to record these for online viewing along with the other splendid records they have for the Isle of Man but it will probably be light years away.

Any help or suggestions with this would be great, thanks a lot

Durham Lookup Requests / Isaac Johnson South Hetton
« on: Sunday 27 January 13 12:51 GMT (UK)  »
Hi can any one help with this gent please, I am helping my friend with her family and he is her Gt Grandfather who on the 1881 census is shown as a school master aged 47 yrs with his wife Elizabeth and family in High Coniscliffe, in 1871 he is shown age 34 yrs living with his wife Elizabeth and daughter at Great Lumley, they are both teachers. In both the census he claims his birthplace as Hetton and South Hetton, my problem is that I cant trace him further back through census or birth records,  I appreciate the ages do not match on these census but you would think that something would be obvious from earlier census. It did cross my mind that he may have gone abroad and that is why he is missing from earlier census, and I did find a chap of the same name leaving Liverpool for New York on the ship "Webster" but none for him returning in the time frame and sadly it does not give the areas the passenger was from.
Can any one enlighten which district, parish, county would his claimed birthplace have come under for the birth years shown, any help would really be appreciated cheers L.B

Montgomeryshire / Mary Rogers born Llangynog, Montgomeryshire
« on: Monday 11 June 12 16:54 BST (UK)  »
Hi to all, dont know if any one can shed any light on the parents of Mary Rogers who went on to marry Richard Jones who states he was born in Llangollen (parents not known). The Parish records at Llansilin show her as Mary Rogers unmarried with twin daughters Martha and Mary b. 1829 at Llansilin their father was named as William Morris. She married Richard at Llansilin in 1832 and they spent the rest of their lives at Llansilin. All census from 1841 -1871 for Llansilin show her as being born at Llangynog, Montgomeryshire. Also the 1841 census shows John Rogers living with the family a pauper and not born in the county.

Earlier in the year I had the privilege of seeing the copies of the Parish records for Llangynog and found her parents were John Rogers and Sarah? sadly the wife's name was never shown and I believe this was the practise, they had 9 children including Mary as follows.
All named  as children of John Rogers and Sarah

Robert b Sept 1789
Dorothy b. Dec 1792
John b. Oct 1794
Ann b.1798 d. 1799
Edward b. July 1800
Thomas b. 1802
Mary b.1804
David b. 1807
Sarah b.1809

My hope is that some one who reads this post may have a connection with the family as shown above as I have now run out of ideas.

Denbighshire / Llangollen Parish records
« on: Sunday 01 April 12 17:25 BST (UK)  »
Hi can any one help point me in the right direction for the above parish records please.
My Gt Gt Grandfather Richard Jones has stated on census he was from Llangollen but from 1841 -1871 his age varies on all census records.
I dare say there are a lot of Richard Jones in the area but it would be nice to eliminate some
1841 census he is shown as 38 yrs making his birth 1803
1851 census he is shown as 55 yrs making his birth 1796
1861 census he is shown as 60 yrs making his birth 1801
1871 census he is shown as 72 yrs making his birth 1799

I was lucky enough to see his marriage record to Mary Rogers at Llansilin in 1832 but it only shows their status not their age, any advice is more than welcome. I have looked through the Denbigh resources but dont see a link. Thanks for any help L.B

Denbighshire / Llansilin Denbighshire
« on: Monday 06 February 12 13:00 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, is there any one out there who knows Llansilin and could offer advice. My GT . GT Grandparents Richard and Mary Jones lived there and are shown on the 1841 and 1851 census, on the 1851 census their address looks like Bake House and is next door to a shop so presume this must have been in the centre of the village. Would any one know if such a place still stands, looking at google maps looks as though nothing much has changed. Thanks for any help that any one can offer, L.B

Anglesey / Evans family of Gaerwen
« on: Monday 04 July 11 00:42 BST (UK)  »
Hi to all on the Anglesey site, I hope someone will be able to throw some light on the street name of my Evans family as shown on the 1851 census for the village of Gaerwen in the parish of Llanfinhengal Escfiog.

The address was 1 Bogal Street, the house next door was Bogel and next to that is a place named Ty Capel. I recently went to Gaerwen and could not find any one to help place the area and the closest I have come up with personally is the garden centre after The Holland Arms which has Ty Capel in the address. Could this be the place? the area could be right as there was a colliery at Pente Brwe, and in the census details my Gt GT Grandfather and two of his sons show as colliers.

I have tried the Archive office at Llangefni for any info but to date have heard nothing from them, and with out old maps I cant get further.

In the 1851 census my Gt Gt Grandfather William Evans states he was a collier who was born in Llanddanial and his wife Eleanor states she is from Newborough but I dont have her maiden name. This is as much info I have on them as in later census they are not shown, so I am presuming they had passed away as during the 10 year period to the the next census my Gt Grandmother Catherine Evans their youngest child had come to Liverpool to be with her older brother Richard.

Any help anyone can give on the area or the family would be really appreciated Regards Liverbird

Huntingdonshire Lookup Requests / birth John Wesson Earith
« on: Tuesday 11 May 10 23:44 BST (UK)  »
Hi to all , would any one be able to point me in the right direction for tracing the birth of my gt gt grandfather John Wesson who from census states he was born in Earith, Huntingdon. I have him in census from 1861 -1881 with his wife Phoebe and family and he is consistent in giving his age so I would put his birth at 1817. It looks as though he never moved out of Earith,  Any help much appreciated, cheers Liverbirds :)
