« on: Monday 18 March 19 14:10 GMT (UK)  »
While looking at an ancestors land occupancies in the Derbyshire village of Tideswell I have encountered a term which I cannot find defined in m,y reference books or Google.

It appears to read Mesnestripes or Mesne stripes.

I wonder if anyone can confirm the meaning please?

World War Two / Abbreviation in RAF service record 1941/45
« on: Thursday 11 May 17 22:13 BST (UK)  »
I have recently received the records of an  officer who was killed in January 1945. The last entry in the movements section of his record appears to be a blurred stamp possibly reading G.C.L. (1893  handwritten) DEATH PRESUMED.

Could someone please explain what the G. C. L means???

Technical Help / Downloads xti().php
« on: Friday 06 May 16 18:54 BST (UK)  »
Over the last couple of days I have been getting downloads from time to time of the type xti(X).php where X is a number currently 9.

What are these files. Googling didn't mean much to me!

I bought a new computer in the spring of 2015 and have been using PAF 5.2 successfully until recently.

I produced a Family Group report with about 12 photos in it which when sent directly to the printer prints as expected.

However if I Save to File I get a .pdf file which when I open has no images just a box where the photo should be.

The files open in Word Starter 2010 and there is mention at the top of the screen that the file has opened in Protected View due to the File Block settings in my Trust Centre.

I have tried changing some of the settings but I still can't get to save with images attached.

Is there a solution short of removing Windows Office Starter and installing the full suite?

Thanks in advance

Pete

Derbyshire / Leonard Walker - quarry accident Tideswell area
« on: Sunday 10 January 16 10:58 GMT (UK)  »
I'm trying to obtain details of an accident in which my GGF Leonard Walker (b 1853 Tideswell) lost a leg. On the 1891 census he is a limestone dresser and on the 1901 a shoe and boot dealer. I suspect the accident probably happened in this time period.

I did a search of newspapers some time  ago without success.

Any suggestions where else I might try will be welcomed.

Thanks

Pete
