Nottinghamshire / John A Holdcroft Obituary 2009
« on: Saturday 23 March 19 12:23 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All,
Just wondering if anyone  has access to the Nottingham Evening Post for 2nd December 2009 please. I'm looking for the obituary for John A Holdcroft who died 18 November 2009 and whose obituary was published on 2nd December. It appears to be too recent to be in the British Newspapers in FindMyPast.

Kind regards,
 Warrawillah in Sydney, Australia

Would it be possible to enhance this photo please as it's all we have?
James  Andrew Donaldson M.A. and Samuel Ritchie Donaldson B.Sc. M.A. 1912. Edinburgh University. Samuel died April 1918 in Flanders. He is remembered on the Tyne Cot Memorial and also on one in his little home town of Orphir in Orkney. I would like to be able to send a copy of this photo to the  people collating the details of Orkney soldiers who died in the Great War.

Thank you for your time and effort,
Marie Donaldson in Sydney

Sussex Lookup Requests / Looking for Henry Sawyer and his wife Elizabeth Wickens
« on: Monday 14 August 17 14:03 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,
The South Australian Dictionary of Biography lists William SAWYER baptised at Slaugham, Sussex on 14 March 1830 to parents Henry Sawyer and Elizabeth WICKENS. William emigrated to Australia in 1849.

I have not been able to find this couple in the 1841 or 1851 census, or indeed any mention of William's baptism at all in any Sussex register I have found.  I did find a Henry SAWYER dying in 1831 but do not know if this is the correct one

Could someone please point me in the direction of where I should look now?
Many thanks,
 Marie in Sydney.

Tipperary / BRADSHAW and HACKETT of Coolderry and Gurtnagoona and Kileroo.
« on: Monday 27 February 17 12:53 GMT (UK)  »
Mary BRADSHAW from Coolderry married James HACKETT who was baptised at Gurtnagoona in 1822 at Borrissoleigh. His place of residence was Kileroo
I am looking for birth date, place and parents of Mary, and marriage and birth details of James' parents, Thomas HACKETT, farmer and Alice RYAN.

Ancestry shows several trees with both Mary and James born in 1811 but since I have found their marriage in 1822 at Borrissoleigh,  I think that this is most unlikely and I expect to find them born perhaps soon after 1800. James and his brother Patrick were both baptised in 1811 at Templemore so that is probably where the assumed birth date is from.

Any help with these Hacketts or Bradshaws is much appreciated.

Nottinghamshire / Court records for 1827 please?
« on: Wednesday 14 September 16 16:36 BST (UK)  »
Hi All,
I have a convict, William Pacey, tried in Nottingham Town Assizes  on 25 May 1827, for larceny. He was subsequently transported to Sydney, NSW in 1828, on board the Countess of Harcourt. (Not to be confused with a convict of the same name, also from Nottingham, who was transported on the Adamant. a few years earlier.)

He also had a couple of prior convictions for larceny  in 1825 and 1826.
I was wondering if there are court records available as I would like to know what he had stolen.

Thank you,
Marie in Sydney.

Warwickshire / William Goode and Elizabeth Chambers, Balsall, Warwickshire
« on: Friday 01 April 16 14:32 BST (UK)  »
William Goode was born in Balsall in 1812.  He is, according to his obituary, supposed to have married Elizabeth CHAMBERS, daughter of Turner George Chambers and Elizabeth Unknown. I cannot find this marriage, or anyone locally named Turner Chambers. However, I have found a marriage in Balsall for William Goode to an Elizabeth TURNER. See attachment.

Do you think it possible that this has been mis-transcribed  or that the marriage info is wrong. Could his wife be Elizabeth TURNER? Can't find them in the 1841 census when baby Joseph would have been around 3 years old but found them in 1851 with Joseph now 12 and William 1. Elizabeth's birthplace is given as Balsall and she was born about 1818. It is said that Elizabeth died leaving 3 children before William came to Australia searching for gold, about 1854 so there was another baby born 1851-1854. Some ancestry trees have her death in 1858. They stayed behind, but much later William brought out his eldest son Joseph who remained here.  Can anyone please help me find Elizabeth Chambers born Balsall about 1818 to Turner George and Elizabeth and her marriage to William maybe about 1837?
Thanks,
 Marie

Gloucestershire / Warry from Bristol
« on: Saturday 12 March 16 12:52 GMT (UK)  »
There were three WARRY convicts who came to Australia, all of whom gave their native place as Bristol: Henry,1826,  theft, the son of John, a baker, Matthew, also a baker, one of the Bristol rioters of 1831, supposed to have been shot and killed when he jumped overboard from the convict ship where he and the other rioters were being held, but being alive and well when he arrived in Tasmania and living for some years in Australia, and Charles Warry, house breaking, 1833.

My question is mainly about Henry who was my husband's ancestor. Who was his father John and when was he born? His age varies on every record but the convict one says he was born about 1807. Were Matthew and Charles his brothers? Henry named one of his sons Matthew.
Many thanks,
Marie in Sydney

Warwickshire / Peter Goode and Jane Cave from Solihull.
« on: Wednesday 03 February 16 14:12 GMT (UK)  »
I have the above couple marrying in Solihull in 1806. Peter Goode died in Solihull in 1850. I cannot find him in the 1841 census or any reference to his birth or parents. I would appreciate some help with this chap please. I believe he was born about 1778, give or take a year or two. I am trying to find out if, as someone on Ancestry says (without any proof) he is descended from the Mennonite Goode/Gut/Guth/Good family of Lancaster County in Pennsylvania.
