Angus (Forfarshire) / Matthews of Dundee 1871 Census help please.
« on: Thursday 07 September 06 03:06 BST (UK)  »
I'm looking for my GG grandfather James Matthew and my GG grandmother Margaret McDonald Paterson.  I don't know where either were born or their birth dates.  I know of two children James Paterson (my G grandfather) and Robert (from mother's death cert. in 1877, )

James Paterson Matthew's marriage cert in 1872 gives the address 49 Castle Street.

I have searched Scotland's People and found only one likely one.  Living at 20 Castle Street are James and Margaret aged 57 and 59, his occupation looks like Insurance ..... but on the son's marriage cert. the father is a millwright ironworker.  The census lists the children: Margaret, 22, James 27, Robert 25, Patrick, 25 and Elizabeth 23.

Problems:  James (son) is 22 in 1872 on his marriage cert. and 27 on 1871 Census.
James (father) occupation is different.

Is there some way someone could check the census to see if there is a Matthew family living at 17 or 79  Dudhope which is the address given on the marriage certificate in 1872.

Thanks so much.

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / George Henry Day C1876 - London
« on: Tuesday 23 August 05 05:42 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find the parents of George Henry Day.  He married Alice Amelia Peagam (who was born in Holborn in 1876).  Two children of George and Amelia that I know of are George William and Rose Jessie Maude, which may give a clue to the parents' names.

Thanks

Would appreciate a lookup for Joseph (b1787)  & Jane White and son Francis White from Egton (Bridge), N. Yorkshire.  Francis was born abt 1835.  I'm hoping to find other siblings.

I tried the website mentioned for N.Yorkshire, but wasn't lucky.

I'm happy to search for myself, but I can't find "Egton, North Yorkshire" on the list in that website.  Does anyone know which district/parish it's in?

Thanks

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / John Condon 1901 Census Lookup
« on: Thursday 14 July 05 04:02 BST (UK)  »
Please can you lookup the 1901 Census for London for my Great Grandfather John Condon.

I recently found out that there was a J. Condon, postman receiving a post office pension living in Paddington.  I also have all the John Condon death listings for England for the years 1898 to 1920 and there is one from Paddington of about the right age.

I wonder if you can check for John Condon, born about 1846 in Ireland, occupation Postman, living in Paddington.

There are a few other John Condon's in the death listings that are close to the right age:
died 1910, age 63, Pancras
died 1914, age 67, Kensington
died 1919, age 73, Chelsea.

Thanks so much

The information following came from a request I made a few weeks ago on RootsChat.

"1881 Census, William is shown as age 52, barber and clockmaker, living in Middlesex with his wife Mary A. age 53 born in Marylebone, not Paddington. Three children only are listed with them, Christopher J.age 18 :Alice M. age 16 and Clara E. age 12.
There is another family lodging with them surname Monday?"

I wonder if I could get a look up on the 1871 Census to see if those children show up there.  I have the 1861 Census and, of course, the children were not born by then.

Other children of William and Mary Ann, according to the 1861 Census, are:
Elizabeth, 12, Frome, Som.
William W, son, 8, Kensington
Ann Warren, Dau, 7, b. Mix Kensington
Laura T. Warren, Dau, 5, b Mix, Kensington
Frederick Warren, Son, 3, b 1858 Kensington
Thomas Warren, Son, 1, b Kensington

Thank you

Cork / John Condon 1851 Census request
« on: Thursday 23 June 05 05:10 BST (UK)  »
I am still searching for birth information on my elusive Great Grandfather.  He was born about 1846 in Ireland, possibly Cork.  His father's name was Michael and was a Shoemaker.  I have just received a list of all the John Condons and Michael Condons on the 1851 County Cork Census.  The only place they match is on page 94.  Could someone please look on page 94 to see if they are together and if John is approx. 5 years old and his father Michael is a shoemaker?

Many thanks

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Kensington look-up 1901 White
« on: Friday 17 June 05 21:31 BST (UK)  »
I just received a marriage cert for Albert Edward White and Laura Warren, m 4 Nov 1901, Kensington.  Father of Albert is Francis White, Carpenter.  Would it be  possible to find the White family in the 1901 Census to see the other children and the mother's name please?

Address of Albert is given as 23 St. Georges Road, Kensington  and Laura's is 132 Clarendon Rd.  Her father is Thomas Warren, House Painter.

I hope the census was before the marriage.

Thanks
