I am trying to find any old photographs of Bowbutts,Strachan, which was originally an inn and had cottages behind it, where I believe my Reid family lived in one.  Of course these cottages may not be there today and new properties in their place.  Any help would be appreciated, thank you

I understand that there is a book at Kew Record Office with names of men who joined the Black and Tans, and wondered if any member goes to the Record Office and could check if there is a name I am looking for in that book.  Many thanks.

Has anyone ever gone to Kew public records office where I understand there is a book with names of men who enlisted for the Black and Tans.  There are a couple of names I need to find out if they did enlist.  Maybe I am grasping at straws.  Thanks

Inverness / Adoptions
« on: Tuesday 12 May 20 07:25 BST (UK)  »
In 1918 my great aunt gave birth to an illegitimate son in Aberdeen, but unfortunately died in 1920.  It looks as if her parents or other members of her family, were not willing to bring him up and he went to live with a Hugh Dey and wife and was brought up in Inverness, we believe, although Hugh was born in Auchindoir.

Was this a common thing to send off an orphan so far away.

Also can't wait for the 1921 census which may clear up things.

Any help would be appreciated.

Aberdeenshire / children boarded out
« on: Wednesday 05 February 20 10:40 GMT (UK)  »
My great aunt died in 1921 in Aberdeen, and left a 2 year old illegitimate child, who was then boarded out to a couple in Inverness.  Was this common practice to send a child so far away from other members of the family in Aberdeen who obviously were not able to bring him up.
Many thanks.
