Armagh / Killeavy Upper, Armagh
« on: Saturday 11 March 17 15:44 GMT (UK)  »
I have seen this marriage in 1868 in the parish of Upper Killeavy between James (Keefe) and Ellen (McAnally). The date being 12th February 1868. Sadly I haven't been able to find a civil marriage record for them so I'm assuming they didn't bother. This would have given their father's names/occupation etc.

With this being the case is there any way I could find out who their parents were and when/where they were born?

can anyone understand what the cause of death is please?

I'm reading "Drunkenness Frostation Certfied"

Is it really being drunk and freezing to death?! It was February after all!

It could also be Prostration but i'm not sure what that means in this context

Any ideas?

US Lookup Requests / John William Dale, German Flatts, Herkimer, New York
« on: Thursday 08 October 15 15:14 BST (UK)  »
I would like to prove that the John William Dale I have done some research into is actually the person I'm interested in. Currently, I have little evidence except similar name and age and occupation. With the surname "Dale" I'm definitely still not completely convinced.

What I know....

I'm interested in the Dale family from Boosbeck and Brotton in North Yorkshire who were mostly ironstone miners in the late 19th Century.

One of the sons John William Dale is on the 1891 and 1901 England Censuses living with his parents George and Mary Dale. Says he was born around 1883 in Boosbeck. There is a birth registration in 1882 in Guisborough which fits this.

I have been unable to find him listed on the 1911 UK census, however the number of "children still living" for Mary and George indicates that he is still alive at that point.

looking further afield - I make the giant leap into finding a John W Dale, living in Herkimer in the State of New York in all the US Censuses between 1910 - 1940. He is married to Ida May Lindsay in 1906 and has two daughters. I've discovered this John W Dale died in 1949 and his wife in 1969.

As I have found before with relatives in America and Canada that their death certificate provides both parents names. I would hope that this would say George Dale and Mary Dixon. Also possibly the marriage in 1906 would help give more conviction to this rather weak link to Yorkshire.

Does anyone know how I could "look up" these documents or order copies of them? Or have any other ideas as to prove this is the John William Dale from Yorkshire.

Many thanks

Devon / HELP!! Higher Cemetery in EXETER
« on: Monday 05 October 15 03:06 BST (UK)  »
Hi All,

I am so totally confused over the layout for the Higher Cemetery in Exeter. I have many family members buried there and I am convinced that some of them would definitely have a headstone but I am so lost over the meaning of the sections. If someone who has had experience with this Cemetery then please can you lend some advice!

As I understand it the system for recording locations has changed a number of times over its 150 year history. The map which is on a sign at the cemetery and also online is very complicated (in my opinion). I can see that the newer sections, HK, ZE, RC etc are pretty straight forward but most of mine are in the older part. I have visited the cemetery twice but only found one out of around 25!

The one I found was Mary Ann Hodge who in the record says the locality is:

Section: D
Division: -
Number: 249C

This grave was in the square on the map marked C8 - C10

It makes no sense!!

Another one, my great-grandfather Charles Percy Bromley reads:

Section: D
over both Division and Number says: G82

As far as I can tell there is not a single "G" or even one implied anywhere on the map.

Anyone want to try to help figure it out.......?

Cornwall / Penzance Cemetery Proprietors Registry Book 1845 1906
« on: Sunday 20 September 15 18:05 BST (UK)  »
I have seen that there was a CD c.2005 which had the transcripts for the Private Burial Ground in Heamoor.

Apparently it contains:
Proprietors Registry Book which has the Registry of the name of the Proprietors; a Plan of the Ground; the Registry of Certificates for allotment of Ground, also all the Interments in the Ground.

I've been looking to purchase this but I can't find a link anywhere

Can anyone help?
