London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / George Edward Podushnick b.1847
« on: Tuesday 12 December 17 16:28 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking at the ancestry of Emily Sarah Podushnick who married Reuben Lawrence Bryant on 2nd June 1894 in Penge. Her father is given as George Edward Podushnick who I have discovered was born in 1847 and appears with his wife Sara (Carr) in the 1871 census in Shoreditch. Unfortunately the familysearch transcribers couldn't make out his place of birth and I was wondering if anyone could do better. I suspect he came from Germany.  Presumably his son, also George Edward, living in Hampton ,Middlesex is recorded in the National Archives as receiving a naturalisation certificate on 28/4/1915 as he was of 'dubious nationality'.  Grateful for any help!

Born in 1863, William tragically, together with his two younger siblings, lost his mother in Bream, Gloucestershire in 1867 and his father at the end of 1868. I found him next in 1888 getting married to Emma Rolfe in Basford, Nottinghamshire. I would love to know who looked after him in his formative years. His siblings were Helen Wheeler b. Bream 1865 and Mary Ann Wheeler b.Bream 1867. In 1871 he is shown to be a coal miner and I suspect that his maternal grandfather and/or mother, John and Ann Webb may have played a part since John was a collier.

I would like to trace the backgrounds of John Musgrave (also spelt Musgreave) and Martha Grayson who married in Barnsley in 1856. The later census returns indicate that they were both born in Barnsley. Any help much appreciated!

« on: Wednesday 30 November 16 21:42 GMT (UK)  »
Fanny Bramley b.1867 Hucknall Torkard appears to have been the daughter of William Bramley who married Maria Bramley in 1862. The question is whether her parents were cousins and, if so, then of what degree? Help please!

I am looking to trace the background of Sarah Webb who was reported to be 26 when she married Edwin Wheeler in Bream on 24th May 1863 and 33 when she died in 1868. Could someone please check the 1861 census for any suspects?

Nottinghamshire Lookup Requests / Arthur Davis's Dad etc.
« on: Friday 11 November 16 15:06 GMT (UK)  »
Arthur Davis married Emma Corbett (nee Wheeler) in the Basford district of Nottingham in the second quarter of 1922. In order to find out his background I need to know where he came from, his age and his father's name and occupation please. I know he was born 'somewhere in Wales' but that isn't the greatest help!
Somewhat hopeful,

I am trying to trace the ancestry of Emmerline Musgrave who was born in Hoyland Common, Barnsley in 1887. I know she married Alfred Chandler but if anyone could point me in the direction of that wedding that would be very helpful too!

United States of America / What happened to the kids? Curtis family in Missouri.
« on: Monday 13 April 15 22:14 BST (UK)  »
My great great grandfather Harry Curtis left his wife and six children in England and went to Canada where he married again in 1863 to Lily Bruce. He appears to have had another four children in Canada - Christopher Fitz Harry, William Fitz Harry, Nancy Read and Lillie Elizabeth. The family moved to Vernon County, Missouri in 1871 where Harry Appleton and Idella May were born. Lily died in 1873. The 1880 census reveals Harry senior farming with his sons(aged 16,14 and 9) and his daughter Lillie(12) living with the family of William Lawyer. A biographical sketch in a book published in 1887 lists all the children and in his will he refers to the fact that his daughter Idella May had been adopted by the family of William (Henry?) Rogers. I am having great difficulty tracing what happened to the children afterwards. Can anyone help?

Regards,
Phil.
