Australia / Renton, William & Eliza
« on: Saturday 25 November 23 02:17 GMT (UK)  »
Hi everyone, I’m hoping someone may be able to help trace William and Eliza Renton née Marshall, who arrived in Victoria from Scotland, 23 October 1852 aboard the “FLORA”. I can find William with Agnes and James if I have the correct ship. On Wiliiam’s headstone in Geelong his death is listed as 1873 and memorial to his first wife Eliza who died Ballarat 1852 aged 38. William remarried in 1855 to Hannah Sinclair. I don’t know what happened to Eliza and haven’t found any records for her. Any help would be appreciated

Lancashire / Dutton
« on: Monday 06 April 20 14:39 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I am searching for information on Thomas Dutton, parents are listed as Samuel Dutton and Mary Ann Adams, born in Manchester, from a marriage register in Victoria Australia in 1885 , his age is given as 62, that would make him born around 1823. Any information would be helpful as I have not been able to match anyone so far.

Berwickshire / 78th Highland Regiment
« on: Sunday 06 October 19 14:55 BST (UK)  »
Hi, i am trying to locate any records for members of 78th Highland Regiment of Foot ( Ross Shire Buffs), in particular Frederick Marshall, he was born in Hallifax , Yorkshire around 1825. I know he was in Edinburgh in 1860 because he was married there to Helen Robertson, on their marriage registry he is listed as Sargeant, 78th Highlanders. It appears they had children born in Kent and Gibraltar as well as Hallifax, so they obviously moved around a lot. Any ideas on where to look or who to contact would be great.

Midlothian / Catherine Gemmell
« on: Sunday 07 July 19 06:31 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I am hoping for some help trying to locate parents of my GGGGrandmother, Catherine Gemmell, she married Alexander Marshall in Duns, 18 January 1832. Alex and Catherine's daughter Helen came to Tasmania in 1859 along with a sister and brother. Helen is my GGGrandmother, Helen adopted the name Helen McKenzie Marshall and married Sidney Marshall( no relative ), their first 2 children were Margaret and Ellen McKenzie Marshall. My theory is that Helen may have adopted her grandmothers surname, McKenzie. I can find a Robbert Gemmell who married Margaret McKenzie in Glasgow in January 1786, but Catherine was born in Midlothian according to later census returns. Any help greatly appreciated, is my theory way off?

Europe / Ludwig Kley
« on: Saturday 17 November 18 13:22 GMT (UK)  »
Hi , I was hoping for some help to find family of Ludwig Kley, according to documents in Tasmania, Australia he was born 18 July 1849, Cartzin, Pomerania, Germany. He arrived in Hobart, Tasmania in August of 1870 aboard the ship " Victoria " from Hamburg, aged 21. Also on board was Frederick Kley aged 26, wife Caroline and infant son Lurig. I can only assume Frederick would be brother or maybe cousin to Ludwig.
Any help appreciated

Australia / Myrtle May Dimsey
« on: Monday 05 November 18 01:38 GMT (UK)  »
I am seeking some information on Myrtle May Dimsey, born possibly around Ballarat in 1890 according to her death age, she married Leslie Archibald Yeaman in 1923. I have not been able to locate a birth for her. It appears she grew up with her grand parents William and Jane Dimsey in Ballarat according to census records. I recently recieved information that she was an illegitimate daughter of William and Jane Dimsey's son John and a lady named Caroline Williams. John moved to Tasmania in the early 1890's and married , dying in Hobart in 1932. Can anyone help to track her parents?

Berwickshire / Catherine Gemmell's parents
« on: Tuesday 10 July 18 15:13 BST (UK)  »
Hi everyone, hoping for some details for parents of Catherine Gemmell,, born somewhere around 1805 to 1811, nut sure of exact date, but she is listed as aged 30 in an 1841 census. She married Alexander Marshall in Dunse , January 1832. Alexander is the son of Daniel Marshall and Margaret Leslie from a previous search. Catherine and Alexander had 5 children that I can find, born in Dunse or Edinburgh. My GGGrandmother, Helen Marshall may hold a clue, she identified as Helen Mckenze Marshall and married in Tasmania, I am thinking their is a family link to the McKenzie family, Helen had a daughter, Ellen Mckenzie Marshall. I found a marriage between Robert Gemmell and Margaret McKenzie in 1786 in Glasgow but not sure if it could be them because of the distance.
Anyone with ideas that could help piece my puzzle together

Berwickshire / Daniel Marshall
« on: Monday 18 June 18 10:09 BST (UK)  »
Hi all, hoping some one may be able to assist in finding information on Daniel Marshall, possibly a birth and parents or children, I seem to have hit a brick wall and taken a wrong turn. This is what I have that seems good. Daniel Marshall married Margaret Leslie in Dunse, 18 December 1798. As far as I can tell five children William, David, Alexander, Mary and Eliza born between 1800 and 1815. I found a death of a Daniel Marshall 15 April 1829 in Dunse, giving his age as 63. His wife Margaret is in the 1841 census giving her age as 70, widowed. If anyone can help with further information it would be greatly appreciated
