The Common Room / Theobald's Farm Tiptree Essex
« on: Friday 07 June 19 15:10 BST (UK)  »
As a Theobald and a member of a very large family from Great Wigborough and Layer de la Haye.
While looking at my OS map and while visit back to my local area .I found a Farm named Theobald's Farm that is now just a residential property.
It is a Grade 11 listed farm house and is circa 1600.
I have found a small amount of history about the house and  need some help to find out how the original farm got it's name. Was it named after an owner who's surname was  Theobald or were Theobald's Tenant Farmers at some time in the past.
On the OS Explorer map it's position is TL 8799 1710.
Thanks in advance
Alan

The Common Room / Churchyard Plans(maps)
« on: Monday 01 January 18 14:28 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, Am wondering if anyone out there knows of or knows how to find old plans of churchyards marking where graves are and if they  have a number. Also the names of people buried in those graves. As my old local churchyard was flattened many years ago and is being re used in some area's.The churchyard plans I am looking for are St Stephens of Great Wigborough,Essex. As I know that some of my ancesters are buried there but am unable locate exact place in the churchyard.I have an up to date hand drawn copy, but it only shows graves with head stones that are readable and new graves. This I obtained from the church warden about 4 years ago.

Essex / Manifold Wick Farm,Tolleshunt Knights Essex
« on: Tuesday 11 August 15 14:20 BST (UK)  »
I have seen from google maps that Manifold Wick Farm is still at Tolleshunt Knights in Essex.
I would like to find out about the farm owners present and in the past.
Also what it's roll was in WW2.Did they employ Land Army Girls and was there at one time a cottage attached to the farm named Mainfold Wick Cottage.
Is  any of the family still still around of the owner of the farm around the time of WW2?

Trying another avenue.
I would like to get in touch with anyone about the same age as myself who is from Great Braxted.
I was born after WW2 and my mother was in the Land Army.
She was posted to Great Braxted to a Land Army Hostel named Littlewoods.
All I know is that it was near Braxted Park.
So if anyone grew up around that area and had parents who might  know or did  where this hostel was.
I would like to know please.

« on: Thursday 07 May 15 11:21 BST (UK)  »
Anyone know how to find burial plots of family at St Stephens Church,Great Wigborough,Essex,
That do not have Head Stones.
I was born in the village and told as a child that my Grandfather and Great Grandparents are buried there.I have recently visited the church and met the church warden.Who was very helpful but only has a plan of plots that have head stones.Has not so far been able to find any records or plans of old plots that are unmarked.
