Scotland / Death Helen Mackay/Mackie
« on: Monday 13 November 17 08:14 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all

I’m searching for the death/burial of Helen Mackay/Mackie (variety of spellings) nee Duncan born 17.5.1814 Pencaitland, parents William and Marion Duncan nee Paxton.

I have her on all the census up to 1901 but can’t find her on the 1911 so guess she died sometime between those years.

1841 living West Calder, Midlothian, aged 25 with husband William and 3 children.

1851 living Newmains, Lanark, aged 34 with 4 children.  Husband William living West Calder with Helen's sister Jane Meek and family

1861 living West Calder, aged 46, coal miners widow, with 2 children.

1871 can’t find

1881 living Dalziel, Lanark, aged 65, mother in law to William McCallum.

1891 living Old Monkland, Lanark, aged 78, staying with daughter Janet Batey and family.

1901 living Motherwell aged 87 and living in Motherwell with her grandson William McKay and family.

I also cannot find the death of her husband William who died sometime between 1851 and 1861 when Helen is described as a coal miners widow.  He was born 2.7.1813 Bothwell, parents Walter and Isabel Mackie nee Thomson.

I have gone boggle eyed trying to find them on Scotlands People so any help you can offer on where to look next would be much appreciated.

Hi all

Can sks help with my Hinks/Hinckes/Hynckes family of Northleach ....

So far I have baptisms spanning the period 1621 to 1698 from A****try .... unfortunately their records for Northleach stop at 1707.  :'(

I then pick them up again in 1740 at Bibury with my Betty baptized 1st Jan 1740 father July followed by her 6 siblings ......

The fathers name July features in both Northleach and Bibury so I feel sure there must be a link somewhere ..... what I need to find is what happened to them in the 40 year gap between the two registers .....

Thanks in advance

London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / Looking for Robert Wiltsher bc 1860
« on: Sunday 22 February 15 15:20 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all

I volunteered to help a friend with his tree and have almost fallen at the first hurdle ...... :-[

The chap I am searching for is Robert Wiltsher (various spellings) bc 1860 Marylebone

I have him with his family in 1901 living Paddington

Robert Wiltsher age 40, Coachman born Marylebone
Arabella Wiltsher age 32, born Dover, Kent
Frederick Wiltsher age 13, born Paddington
Edward Wiltsher age 5, born Knightsbridge
Florence Wiltsher age 3, born Paddington
Elizabeth Wiltsher age 1, born Paddington

The 1911 census has them all living Willesden, Middlesex.   Robert and Arabella married 24 years, 7 children born, 4 still living.

My problem is that I can’t find Robert, Arabella and son Frederick on the 1891 census ..... neither can I find a marriage for them.

Hoping sks on here can help

Derbyshire / Christened twice?
« on: Monday 24 March 14 17:41 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all

I have a bit of a puzzle which I hope sks can help me with ....

Family Search have the christenings of the children of Henry and Elizabeth Illsley at Melbourne ....

Most of them are straight forward ...

10.4.1803 William Carter Illsley and James Illsley cr the same day

29.11.1807 Henry Illsley and Elizabeth cr the same day

6.8.1837 Thomas Illsley, Francis Illsley and Mary Illsley - these give their birth dates as well ....
Thomas 12.9.1812, Francis 17.8.1816 and Mary 30.4.1810 ..... so adults?

All took place at Melbourne, Derbyshire ..... I'm guessing it's St Michaels .... so far so good ...

Then we get

Mary born 30.4.1810 has seemingly been christened before at Penn Lane Independent, Melbourne, Derby on 16.5.1810 - Batch no. C06686-1

On the same batch number is Francis Illsley cr 16.6.1817 - is he the same one cr 6.8.1837 with Mary
and Thomas?

Are there two Mary's with the same birth date with the same parents names?  ???

Thanks in advance from a very confused

Canada / Mary Hannah HOULT born Canada c 1872
« on: Wednesday 07 August 13 10:43 BST (UK)  »
I'm hoping sks can help me with this ....

1881 UK census has Mary H HOULT aged 9 born Canada living Litchurch in Derbyshire with two of her brothers (Frederick and Thomas) and her Aunt Charlotte PICKARD ...

1891 census she is aged 19 born Canada living with her brother Herbert and his wife in Osmaston, Derbyshire ...

I have her on the 1901 where she still states just Canada as her birth place, on the 1911 she is married to Joseph DOMELOW living Aston on Trent, Derbyshire ..... she now states she was born Hamilton, Canada ...

As all her siblings were born in England I can only deduce that the family (all or part) went to Canada for some reason after the 1871 UK census and returned before 1878 when her younger sister Sarah Pickard HOULT was born in Leicestershire .....

My questions are how do I go about finding her birth in Canada and are there any passenger lists I can use to find exactly how long they stayed in Canada .....
