I'm Looking for the cemetery and burial plot of a British Merchant Navy Cadet James Alexander Murphy.
James was only 19 when he died whilst at sea off Western Australia on the 7th October 1973.
At the request of his parents he was buried in Melbourne on the 15th October. James was born in Liverpool UK.
An old shipmate wishes to pay his respects. Any help or guidance appreciated.

World War Two / MOD records at NEC Birmingham show.
« on: Tuesday 14 March 17 13:43 GMT (UK)  »
Just received this via e-mail.

"MOD Record Office press release

The Ministry of Defence will be attending the Who Do You Think You Are Live show at the NEC, Birmingham, between the 6 and 8 April 2017.

The show, a spin off from the popular TV series “Who Do You Think You Are?” has about 12,000 visitors over the 3 days and focuses on genealogy. The MOD stand will be staffed by experts from the MODs Medals and Records Offices and offer medals and records advice, live searches of the MOD databases supporting their holdings of service records and RAF Casualty Packs, and issue of Veterans Badges.

The MOD holds all service records where the individual was discharged after 1921 (including about 500,000 who saw service in World War One) and has catalogued about 10,000 RAF Casualty Packs.  This is therefore a rare opportunity to access these databases and talk direct to experts from the MOD, and will be of interest to family historians and military researches. The stand will also feature a display of Medals, Service Records and RAF Casualty Packs.

I have had and enquiry from abroad concerning an old British Merchant seaman (born 1904 so presumed deceased)
The lady in question know's very little about her grandfather but she has his NI number. (from MN records)
Is there anyway she can trace his movements and importantly how and where he died via NI records?
Who would she get in touch with.

Thanks SW

Armed Forces / JASPER STUART MOORE RN?
« on: Saturday 20 August 16 18:54 BST (UK)  »
Looking for a Seaman named JASPER STUART MOORE born 1887 in Clare but spent most of his early life in Limerick. I can find nothing on this man being a Merchant Seaman.
It has been stated that two of his ships were BLACK PRINCE and VIVID. Which I understand to be an RN ship and a RN Shore Establishment.
Problem is I still cannot find him as RN, RNR or RNVR  Any help appreciated.
Thanks SW
