Hampshire & Isle of Wight / Will Advice Please-Prior 1858
« on: Wednesday 16 May 07 22:16 BST (UK)  »
During a search of the Hampshire Record Office I found mention of a couple of Wills that could belong to my Morze family, albiet the Wills are spelt Mose or Moaze.  There are 5 Wills dating from 1719 - 1759.

I thought I would download the Will dated 1719 for Richard Mose (Moaze) of South Hayling - Yeoman.

However when I searched the National Archives for the Wills I can't seem to find any of them mentioned anywhere despite trying wildcards, just entering occupation or South Hayling.

Could anyone advise me if all Wills prior to 1858 have been deposited at the Archives and I should continue searching?

If all else fails I could order the Will from the Hampshire Record Office but it is dearer than the National Archives download and it would take a little time to get here to NZ by snail mail.

Hampshire & IOW Lookup Requests / Hayling Manor c1737
« on: Wednesday 02 May 07 02:47 BST (UK)  »
I have recently downloaded the will of Richard MORZE dated 16 Nov 1737 wherein he mentions leaving his copyhold estate of the Manor of Hayling to his daughter Mira? (name was hard to read).

The will mentions that the manor 'is now in the occupation of Richard ANDREWS & ? STAIRES'.

Does anyone have info on Hayling Manor or know where I could find such info?

Thanks

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / 1871 Lookup - WICKENDEN - Deptford
« on: Saturday 24 March 07 10:46 GMT (UK)  »
According to the 1861 census John WICKENDEN was living at 8 Words Place, St Pauls, Deptford with his parents Joseph & Mary WICKENDEN aged 14 and born in 1847, Sussex.

He doesn't appear at this address in 1871.

On 4 June 1876 he married Mary Matilda MORZE at All Saints, Stratcham, Surrey, his address is listed as Besson Street and his occupation is carman.

I suspect he died 1878 Greenwich at the age of 32 so he doesn't appear in the 1881 census.

Any help find John would be much appreciated.

Northumberland / Robert Simpson b1861 Walker, Northumerland
« on: Monday 13 November 06 09:31 GMT (UK)  »
Could I please ask for help from someone who may be able to help with Robert.

From the 1891 census I have found Robert Simpson advised his birthplace as Walker, Northumberland, age 30.

I have his marriage certificate in 1886 Sunderland and his father is listed also named Robert and also a coalminer.

I think I have traced the family in the 1881 census to Denton, Burn where Robert Snr has listed his bplace as Newburn and Robert Jnr bplace is also Newburn and both coalminers.

Is Newburn, Northumberland any where near Walker Northumberland?  I do hope I am on to the right family
:-).  Thanks for any help.

Durham Lookup Requests / Hudson Family - Help Please
« on: Monday 31 July 06 02:39 BST (UK)  »
I am going bonkers trying to find this Hudson family, can someone please help?

Things I know from 1871 census Old Tile Sheds, Newbottle, Durham
Thomas Hudson Widower Age 40 Fire Brick Lab Born Louth, Ire
Sarah Hudson Dau Age 12 Born Consett
Henry Hudson Dau Age 9 Born Consett
Isabella Hudson Dau Age 7 Born Consett

There is also a Mary Hudson born c1866 Consett but I can't find her other than on the 1891 census when she was staying with her sister Sarah and BIL Robert Simpson in Westoe, Durham.

Sarah Hudson married Robert Simpson in Dec 1886 Sunderland, Durham (source FreeBDM)  I can't find exact birth dates for the Hudson children so cannot order birth certs to find Thomas Hudson's wife and I can't seem to find anyone on census records that seem to be the correct family.

Thanks  Susan - NZ
