Armed Forces / Fold3
« on: Tuesday 15 August 23 12:44 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,

I have had a stumbling block for years but have came across an entry on Fold3 of a William Trainer, 96 Foot
On trial in Berhampore (India?) 8th Sept 1869.

Is there anyway I can find out more about this William? Service records, joining?  Anything else?

If this is my William, i found a grave saying he died India 28 Oct 1875.

Desperately hoping this will be the right ancestor but how can I confirm?

Any help is much appreciated ty

Dumfriesshire / Nilson/Trainer
« on: Friday 14 February 20 19:56 GMT (UK)  »
Evening all.. Im not sure if this is the best place to put this. I keep going back to the same thought of my fathers middle name Nelson which has came down the line, possibly being a grandmothers maiden name at some point.
The earliest ancestor iv found up to now is a James Nelson Trainer born 1779 died 1782, Berwick-upon-Tweed  (5th G Uncle).
I decided to just search Nelson and Trainer and came across a Scottish 1871 census with Isabella Nilson (mother born 1809ish Ireland) and John Trainer (son, born 1837ish Ireland ) Elizabeth Wylie (head and daughter to Isabella).
My dad always said there was Irish in the family. And this is the 1st time iv came across these 2 names at the same place. I'd appreciate any help in trying to find any connection and hopefully link Nelson and Trainers together 🤞.
Many thanks and sorry for the long post x

« on: Sunday 01 September 19 23:23 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,

Im hoping for a bit of help!

I was checking through the scanned pics of the 1861 census for Berwick-Upon-Tweed looking for mis transcriptions of Trainer. I came across an entry which iv not seen before, transcribed listed as..

Roar Philips             Head       F    wid  80   (not sure what the next bit is) and  Born at sea
Elisabeth Philips       Daug       F   mar  27    Berwick
Agnes Barclay          G Daug   F             6     Scotland
Catharin Crammond  G Daug   F          11     Berwick
Elisabeth Trainer       G Daug   F            1     Berwick

can anyone work out any of this?  ??? ???
Iv had a look on GRO for Elisabeth Trainer's birth, but im only getting 1 found with mother listed as Hope, I know who this 1 is in the family. I dont recognise any of the other names listed above.

Here is the link on Ancestry if it helps? fingers crossed!

Canada Resources / Harry Isles, Firdale, Manitoba 1909
« on: Tuesday 13 March 18 09:31 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all,
I'm hoping for some help in finding out more about my 1st cousin 3x removed Harry Isles.

I have found a newspaper artical about his death in 1909, with some fab information stating..
'The deceased took a very prominent part in the Templar movement in the Dominion, that 'The Royal Templar' says the bereavement which has overtaken the council of the death of it's founder..
Also that he was made the 1st P.C

Sadly he was only 26 when he died.
His father also Harry Isles was the postmaster in Firdale at the time.

I'm in the UK and have no idea how or what other information I could find out?

Any help would be much appreciated

Northumberland / Steam laundry building, Tweedmouth
« on: Friday 04 August 17 16:45 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,
Iv been trying to 'hopefully' find a picture of a building in Blakewell Road, Tweedmouth which used to be an electric laundry in and around 1914.
Iv been told by a 4th cousin iv found, about another side of our family who had a steam laundry business, which then lead to Trainers Electric Laundry or such, painted on the roof which has now faided drastically.
Would love to see a picture with the wording more prominent if possible

« on: Thursday 24 September 15 16:47 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
Im just back from the archieves in Ashington.. Im trying to find my ancestors marriage..
Basically the only thing i have to go off is a walking stick which was presented to him on his Golden Wedding Anniversary (50 years) on 1st April 1889.. making his wedding 1st April 1839..

I cant find it anywhere in the Northumberland archives.

James Nelson Trainer (only have his baptism date 13 sept 1818) Berwick-upon-tweed
Eleanor (dont have her maiden name, this was why im after the marriage) born around 1820 Tweedmouth

Im starting to wonder if Eleanor is maybe a middle name.

I cant send off for the marriage certificate as i dont have James actual birth date..

any help on this would be much appreciated as my heads done in  ???

Many thanks
