England / Francis H Warren
« on: Tuesday 02 February 16 20:02 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all,
Tricky one maybe but looking for some help.
My G Grandfather was one Francis H Warren, who disappeared and never came back shortly after my Grandfather was born in 1918. As far as my mum knows, her dad (my Grandfather) never saw him again. However, he did tell her once that he suspected he had a half brother living in Wales, near Aberystwyth.
Anyway, I was doing a random search for his name the other day and uncovered this fantastic photograph of him (see attached). Underneath this photo was the caption "Francis H. Warren (London artist) taken in 1921 with Miss Mona Vivian at the London Hippodrome
photo provided by Francis' grandson Alan."

Understandably this came as something of a surprise, as my mum had no idea other than a fleeting mention of this as a possibility from my Grandfather.

What I would like to know is if it's possible to trace this side of his family any more? I have done some cursory research and found he was living in Stratford on Avon in 1939 with a Florence I Warren and with a child/dependent (who can't be named) and also that he died in Stratford. Does anyone know how best to find the mothers maiden name and then perhaps a birth record for the 1939 child/dependent?

Any help much appreciated or any other information at all.

Herefordshire / House Name
« on: Friday 16 October 15 20:14 BST (UK)  »
Hello all,
This is a little bit of a long shot, but just wondering if anyone has any know-how on finding historic information on properties (build dates/original names/owners etc.)?
Our house is in Herefordshire and although I am a seasoned genealogist I haven't been able to get anywhere with it. The house is presumed to have been built c. 1700 as a parsonage/manse and is one of the few houses of its type in the vicinity (fairly typical symmetrical proportions, three stories and large windows) as the rest are almost entirely very small cottages, aside from some very large and old farmhouses. However, apart from a mention in the 1891-1911 census there is absolutely no record of it before this point. Every other house locally seems to have been recorded on at least one census before this, usually by name. The houses either side of ours is are often mentioned but ours is not.

I had wondered whether if our house was built by the church, maybe it was sold off and then left empty for a long period of time?

Any help much appreciated.
