Lanarkshire / John Thomas Chain and Elizabeth Griffiths
« on: Wednesday 03 August 16 18:48 BST (UK)  »
I am fairly certain that John Thomas Chain b 1827 in Chester married Elizabeth Griffiths b 1828 in Cicain, N Wales. I cannot find any marriages in our area but there is a record of a couple of this name who married in Glasgow on 14 Dec 1846. I don't have a subscription for Scotland and can only find the transcription. I wonder if anyone is able to tell me whether it is possible to view the document and whether there are any details which would confirm that this is the same couple.

Flintshire / May Davies
« on: Friday 29 July 16 16:19 BST (UK)  »
Many years ago my mother told me a story about having a sister who died of diptheria as a child. I have recently found her  birth in 1925 (May Davies). I have sent for her birth certificate from Mold Register Office. However, I cannot find her death. I don't know the year. I would have thought that being quite recent, a record would be relatively easy to find. I have looked in Flint and Denbigh burials, the GBD for England and Wales, North Wales GBD and Find My Past. Has anyone any suggestions as to where else I could look?

Flintshire / Roman Catholic Records
« on: Friday 11 March 16 16:29 GMT (UK)  »
I have sent for a couple of marriage certificates which show that some of my ancestors were married in St Winefreds Chapel, Holywell. I think that their children would have been baptised there and there may also be other records which might help me find the name of my 3x g grandmother. However, I have no idea how (or even if it's possible) to access RC records and how I might go about it. Any advice appreciated  :)

I am trying to find something (anything) on my 2nd g gmother Margaret Hussain. Her maiden name on her son's birth certificate is given as Heshan. She married Peter Griffiths in 1849 and I have her on the 1851, 1871, 1881 census and also her death in Mold but I cannot find anything before she married.
She was born (according to census) in Galway abt 1829.

Flintshire / Williams - Buckley
« on: Tuesday 02 February 16 14:25 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to find my 2x great grandfather John Williams.  I have Marriage certificate for son Thomas so I know John was a Collier and he lived in Argoed. My problem is this. I do not know Thomas's mother's name and I am not sure of Thomas's date of birth. Looking at the census after Thomas was married (1860) he could have been born in 1836 1838 1839 1840 1841. I have two families which fit John and wife Ruth or John and wife Mary. Both live in the same place Buckley Square. Both have children called Thomas. Both John's are Colliers. Any thoughts on how I can decide which is the right family?

Flintshire Lookup Requests / Hawarden/Mold Records Offices
« on: Sunday 17 January 16 19:01 GMT (UK)  »
I have just started tracing my family and have generally found lots of information online. I have 4 books on geneology but none of them has an answer to my question.

I know that to research in the local offices, you have to ring and book a time and that's where my knowledge ends. What I would like to know is what information I will need to take and what I can expect to find. For example, I want to obtain a birth certificate for my grandfather, John Williams who lived in Buckley. I have managed to buy his Marriage Certificate because I had all the information I needed to send for it. I have his date of birth, 14th April 1883 (from his headstone). I know his father's name, Thomas and I think (but have no proof) that his mother's maiden name was Phillips. When I put this information into the North Wales BMD, there are at least 2 matches. If I visited Mold registry office with reference numbers, what information would I be able to access and do I need to take any other information?  I seem to be in this position with a lot of my relatives because I am trying to find Williams, Griffiths and Davies.

Denbighshire / Marriage - Peter Griffiths 1885
« on: Saturday 16 January 16 12:56 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying establish who Peter Griffiths (my Great Grandfather) married in St Tecla, Llandegla in 1885. It was either Mary Roberts or Mary Hughes. They had a son (also called Peter ) either in 1885 or 1886 and Mary died between 1886 and 1897. He married his second wife (Margaret Ann) in 1897 ( I have proof of this marriage). I am trying to avoid sending for 2 marriage certificates (only to destroy the wrong one). Is there anyway I can view records with information which would help me decide which one to send for? I would be be grateful for any help anyone can offer.
