Can anyone decipher the words on the bottom line of this description.  It gives a clue as to why this woman's husband isn't the father of her child, but I can't make out the crucial part of the bottom line.

I think I can make out:-
Morrison (Baker) who she declares
is not the father of this child
having been _______ of (Scotland?) for four years.

Thank you

Census Lookup and Resource Requests / 1841 census too faint to read
« on: Sunday 10 December 17 19:55 GMT (UK)  »
I'm trying to find information on a branch of my wifes ancestors who came from Dunkirk, Kent.
I think I may have found them in the 1841 census, but the copy on Ancestry.co.uk is so faint it is impossible to read.  The page is :-
Piece   466
Book   5
Page number 1
The family I'm looking for could be the first 8 people on the page.  They have been transcribed somehow, but other than Susanna, I can't really make any names out.

Does anyone know if any other websites have a clearer image of this page, or know of any computer techniques or software that might make the page readable.

Hi,
If anyone has access to Bocking, Essex baptism records could they lookup possible baptisms for Jane Green and Catherine Green around 1790's.  Death records indicate they could both have been born around 1793.  I'm hoping they may be sisters which could help remove a brick wall. Jane ended up in Birmingham and was my 4xgreat grandmother.  Catherine seems to have lived all her life in Bocking and Braintree and died unmarried.  At the moment I have nothing to link them other than they were both from Bocking and both called Green.

Thank you

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Is this the same person?
« on: Saturday 16 April 16 14:42 BST (UK)  »
I'm trying to identify people in some unannotated old photographs.
Any opinions as to whether the man on the left in picture 1, is the man on the right of pictures 2 and 3.
I don't know when any of the photographs were taken.  Picture 3 was probably some time between 1950 and 1956 when he would have been 59-65.  The man on the left of pictures 2 and 3 I'm pretty sure is the same person (my grandfather) who was born in 1916.

Technical Help / Anyone having problems with Find My Past
« on: Monday 28 March 16 20:45 BST (UK)  »
Every time I search I get 0 records found.
I double checked with records I know exist from the 1841 and 1881 censuses, Staffordshire Baptisms and the 1939 register and all came back with 0 records.

The Common Room / Can't find first marriage for widow.
« on: Monday 21 March 16 09:46 GMT (UK)  »
I'm trying to find a first marriage for Harriet Davis, daughter of James and Charlotte Davis, baptised 1826 in Norton, Gloucestershire.
She isn't with he her family in the 1841 census, but could be one of several Harriet Davis's in Gloucestershire.
By the 1851 census she is a servant in Medway, Kent and is now Harriet Neve (widow), I assume the Lucy 'Daves' with her is her sister Lucy.
By December 1852 she is back in Gloucestershire, marrying Charles Webb, on the marriage record she is Harriet Neve widow, father James Davies, so I think it is the same woman throughout.

So who was her first husband, the name Neve seems most common in Kent, so she possibly married there.  But I can't find a marriage for Harriet Davis and a Mr Neve.
Any ideas anyone?

The Common Room / Can't find 1841 birth record
« on: Saturday 05 March 16 20:34 GMT (UK)  »
I'm trying to find the maiden name of my Gt-gt-gt-gt Grandmother Sarah (Morrow).  According to censuses she was born around 1806 in Coventry and married? a John Morrow who was originally from London.  I can't find a birth or marriage record for her, so my next plan was to get a birth certificate for her daughter (my Gt-gt-gt Grandmother Elizabeth Morrow).
At the time of the 1841 census Elizabeth was 5 months old.  There is a baptism record for her on 15 Feb 1841 at Coventry, St John the Baptist.  I would assume her birth should be registered in the first couple of quarters of 1841.  But I can't find a record in the index.  There are other Elizabeth Morrow's registered around that time elsewhere in the country but as they all died soon after they aren't her.  I've tried every combination of misspelling I can think of and still can't find anything.
Any ideas as to what to try or where to look next.
