Other Countries / St Helena British soldier & family 1810-1821
« on: Tuesday 10 April 18 21:56 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
Im researching Edward George who was born on St Helena in 1815 to John and Isabella. I think John was a British soldier. Their eldest child was born in 1810 on St Helena. Where would i find further info about Johns army career please and as he was there 5 years before Napoleon arrived does this make it easier to narrow down what regiment he was part of? Thank you.

Glamorganshire / CWMPARC
« on: Wednesday 11 January 17 21:50 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
I'm wondering if anyone from Cwmparc or near there remembers the Eynon family who lived there? As far as I know, the Eynon family in question moved there between 1860 and 1870 until about 1970. My great grandfather is John Morris Eynon who was born 1906 and died 1934.

Thank you
Hannah

Family History Beginners Board / 1877 marriage in Bolton in Register Office
« on: Monday 06 June 16 14:44 BST (UK)  »
I've just received the marriage certificate of a couple getting married in 1877 in Bolton. I found out it was 1877 from findmypast but when I went on the Lancashire Parish Registers website I was confused to not be able to find their marriage transcription. Their subsequent children were all baptised and I could see their baptism transcriptions and then later on the burials of the couple in question but no marriage.
Upon receiving the marriage certificate in the post, I found that they were married in Bolton Register Office. Neither had been married before, they had no previous children and based on dates of their children the wife wasn't pregnant at the time of their marriage.
So I'm wondering why they got married in a register office and not a church??
Thanks  :)

Glamorganshire / Green Hill, mental hospital Pentrebach 1939??
« on: Wednesday 06 April 16 23:11 BST (UK)  »
In the 1939 register my great great uncle is living with his parents in Abercynon. He is 30-something and listed as mentally incapacitated and 'At Green Hill'. My granddad seemed to think that he was at some sort of mental hospital. I've googled it and found a Green Hill Manor Care Home in Pentrebach but I have no idea if it was there in 1939 - seems quite a way to go every day from Abercynon to Pentrebach in those days!

I would be very grateful if anyone had any ideas as I am not local to the area!

Many thanks,
Hannah
