Monaghan / Seeking information on Fin(n)egan and Kirley family, Lisdoonan
« on: Saturday 05 November 22 13:24 GMT (UK)  »
Seeking information (and appreciate your help) on the Finnegan and Ward connections round Lisdoonan. On the Finnegan side, Patrick Finnegan, Monalia, married Alice Kirley, Beagh??, on 31st July 1886. Witnesses (as far as I can read) were Owen Kirley and Catherine Ward. Patrick's father was Peter Finnegan, farmer, and Alice's father was Thomas Kirley, farmer. They had at least one son John, born on 10th June 1902, but possibly more family that I haven't yet found. Some of the records from the time are very difficult to read (particularly the Raferagh ones). This John married Bridget Ward, Lisdoonan, on 18th August 1927. Their graves are in Lisdoonan, up behind the Church on the left. Can anyone help if these people are on your tree. Thanks so much.

Ayrshire / Seeking info on marriage of James Shaw McCrindle and Mary Elizabeth Johnson
« on: Wednesday 04 November 20 20:39 GMT (UK)  »
Information request (please) on the marriage of James Shaw McCrindle and Mary Elizabeth Johnson, I'm told in Ayrshire, Scotland. The only child I can see that they have is a daughter Ellen, born in Ireland in 1908, but I'm unsure if they had children prior to this. They lived in Ireland by then and was employed there. James died aged 38 in 1909, and I think the family returned to Scotland (have nothing definite on this) Thanks in advance.

Hoping someone can help me out with information on the death of Peter McCahera, from Monaghan, Ireland who died in an accident in New York on 19th December 1930. (There may also be alternative but similar spellings of his surname).  He was born in 1906, and I don't know what year he travelled to USA, but he was living in Bronx, New York. Perhaps because he died in an accident it may have been reported in a newspaper. He was buried in Calvary Cemetery, Queens. Your help is much appreciated, thank you.

Down / Seeking information on McKenna/Toal marriage, unsure of dates, but after 1912
« on: Thursday 16 April 20 22:31 BST (UK)  »
Seeking information on the date/place of marriage of Mary Josephine McKenna (born 1879) from Co Monaghan, a widow, who married a Toal man, and they were living in Belfast. I don't have dates for the marriage, nor the first name of the groom. Mary's maiden name was Conlon, and sometime after the death of her first husband in 1912 she left Monaghan. She had one son Francis McKenna, she herself was born in Monaghan, and her father's name was Patrick Conlon, a farmer. By the time of her only son's death in Co Down in 1953 she was described as Mrs Mary J Toal.....sorry the information is vague, I have fairly good information on her previous family line. Thanks in advance.

Seeking to find information on a long lost family member, and where he ended up. Hugh Sherlock was born in Tedavnet, Co Monaghan,  Ireland in the 1850s. He had a number of siblings, brothers Thomas and Nicholas who remained near home, brother Patrick who went to England, at least one sister Ann who also remained near home, and perhaps another sister who went to England. We do know that Hugh emigrated to Cleveland, Ohio, and never returned home again. Any information appreciated on him, perhaps someone has access to ship's manifests or census records to find out a bit more, where he died or was buried etc. It's a long shot.....but thanks in advance.

Tyrone / Seeking information on Holland/Smith/Smyth families in Clogher area
« on: Sunday 04 August 19 22:55 BST (UK)  »
Seeking information on Mary Holland, daughter of Ann Holland of Corleaghan, and her husband William Smith/Smyth.......Ann Holland was a gamekeeper for Lord Rossmore on Sliabh Beagh, and she died in Clogher in 1920; presumably she is buried in St Macartan's (Forth) Chapel, but no headstone to recognise this. In relation to Ann Holland's daughter Mary Holland, information appreciated about the man she married, William Smyth from Cloghlynn, a neighbouring townland of Corleaghan where she was born. Mary (an only child) and William married in Clogher on 3rd March 1919, and within a year her mother (Ann Holland) died (Feb 1920), she herself died (March 1920), and her new baby son also died aged 4 weeks. William Smyth's father was named John, but the marriage certificate did not specify if he was deceased at the time William married Mary. Seeking any further information on what became of William - did he remarry, perhaps he emigrated, or when/where did he die, where is he buried etc? Trying to piece together more information on the family or indeed any other family connections. Information appreciated.

Information request on William Greene, originally from Fermanagh, an RIC Policeman, who spent much of his life in Clifden, Galway. He married Bridget Connolly from Feebaghduff, Scotstown, Co Monaghan and they had seven children. There’s a marriage record for a William Green and Bridget Connolly in St Mary’s, Fivemiletown, Co Tyrone on September 1, 1887. He’s a sergeant in the RIC living in Omagh at the time. His father Patrick is deceased. Bridget is a school teacher whose father, also named Patrick, is deceased as well. The marriage record gives the bride and groom’s place of residence at the time of marriage, not where they were born, and the entry for Bridget says Portaferry, County Down, William was listed as residing in Omagh.
One of their sons, Thomas Greene, came as a child to live near Tydavnet, Co Monaghan, with his aunt Ellen (Connolly) who was married to Thomas Loughran, originally from Meath, also a Policeman.
Family lore suggests that even though they did not speak Gaelic, that William’s son used to say that the Greene name came from something that sounded like “McHoutna”, sorry about the spelling, but that’s the way it sounded to young children growing up. William Greene ended his days in Dublin, he was buried in Glasnevin cemetery with his wife Bridget, son Michael Joseph and daughter Mary Bridget. Sorry, there is no more specific information, other than County Fermanagh – but leads on areas or townlands or any remaining relatives in the area would be appreciated, or anything else that may help in the search.

Trying to find information on William Greene, born in 1852 in Fermanagh, who served in the RIC in Galway. He married Bridget Connolly (she was born in 1856) from Monaghan, in 1872, in Fivemiletown, Co Tyrone. At the time he was living in Omagh, she in Portaferry, Co Down. Looking at the marriage certificate, it looks like the wedding was witnessed by Thomas Nolan and Margaret Mary Kallaghan??? William Greene's father was called Patrick, and I think Bridget Connolly' father was also Patrick, both deceased at the time of the wedding. They had 8 children, 4 of them born in Leitrim (Garvagh and Dromod), and 4 more in Clifden. When he retired he went to live in Glasnevin, Dublin, and they are buried in Glasnevin cemetery. His wife Bridget was a teacher, posssibly from Tedavnet, and she had a sister Ellen married to Thomas Loughran, who was originally from Meath, but they spent their married life in Monaghan. Any information appreciated please. Thanks in advance.
