Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Dna with a mirror tree help
« on: Saturday 14 July 18 11:14 BST (UK)  »
I've been trying to locate an unknown grandfather using my dna matches.  I made up a mirror tree and attached my dna as I have seen done online but I think I've gone wrong.  I just have the one shared ancestor hint and it is my 4th cousins parents, worse the hint says I am my 4th cousins brother 😱 My mirror tree is private and I ticked the box to say not to show it in searches but will my 4th cousin see me suddenly showing up as an unknown brother?

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / using dna to try and find unknown grandfather
« on: Saturday 30 June 18 13:15 BST (UK)  »
I am very new to dna, i've only had my results for a month and am still feeling pretty overwhelmed by it all.  I was hoping that I would get some matches that would help me try and break down a few of my brick walls on my paternal side but nearly all my matches are from my mothers side  :(

I know the ethnicity part of the test is mostly just a bit of fun but my result said i was 17% europe south which makes a lot of sense to me, my nan always said my dads father was a greek sailor  :) I have a lot of matches which have greek sounding names but unfortunately, the closest matches are only 4th cousins.  A few do have trees, some of them quite large but I'm thinking it would be impossible to try and work it out , is that the case?

Its a sad state of affairs but this terrible quality photocopy is the only image I have of my nan who passed 25 years ago.  I know its a big ask but I would be so grateful if anyone could just make it even a little bit better, I'd love to be able to see her face more clearly.

Has anybody else found that new matches have totally dried up?  I was getting at least 1 4th cousin a day at first but I haven't had anyone new for over a week?

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / help with reading an entry in the census
« on: Saturday 02 June 18 20:48 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I added this message to an old post last week but didn't get any replies so I hope no one minds if I post it again.

I have found what i think must be my 3x gt grandparents on the 1911 census under the anglicised version of there names Marshall.  I am fairly sure its the correct family as the 2 children i knew of william and annie (my 2x gt grandmother) are both listed and the ages match up.  The wifes name is different though, Maggie rather than Agatha though im not overly surprised as there names are regularly different or spelt differently.  the think i would like help with is there appears to be a 3rd child listed but i cannot make out the name, can anyone help?  I also noticed that they had had 4 children but only 3 living.  i tried to search SP for children that had passed in the gorbals but there were too many, does anyone know of a better way of searching?  I dont think the children were registered with the name Marshall, my 2x gt grandmother was registered Mekszraites and my 2 gt uncle was registered as Pampalute as he was illegitimate.

I hope someone can help,

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Help with reading some text

Hi, it would be great if anyone could help me with this because I have been searching for ages with no luck.

I’m looking for the marriage of my gt grandparents Michael English and Margaret Fadian, they lived in Westport, Co. Mayo.  I can find Margaret’s birth certificate on which she is named ‘maggie’ she was born on the 2nd September 1898. No sign of a death for her though. Her fathers name was Daniel Fadian.  Michael was born 22 August 1892.  I can’t find a death for him either.  His father was also called Michael and his mother’s maiden name was Gallagher.

I’ve searched the Irish genealogy website and on ancestry so far.

Thanks for any help
