Has anyone managed to find any inmates of the hospital on the 1921 census?

I have been searching for a relative who was living there in 1939.  She was married had 3 children (one died young).  Her son Edgar (b1901) was brought up by his Paternal Grandmother and Paternal Aunt and her Daughter Annie Butler (b1908) was brought up by my great Grandparents.  I cannot find Annie or her Mother Hannah (Murgatroyd) Butler (b1868) on the 1921 census.  Annie's Father Charles (b1873) looks to be living alone in Keighley, where his wife and children were born. Annie was brought up as a daughter by my great Grandparents, no differently to their own 5 children.  They also lived in Keighley, yet Charles was rarely if ever mentioned by my Grandma, her siblings or Annie.  We do not know when Hannah was placed in the hospital but Annie was taken in as a child/teenager so I would think that Hannah might be in the hospital in 1921, especially so as her husband appears to be alone on the census.  I have not seen the actual census but when you hover over the option to buy it lists others living in the household and no names come up on Charles's but I cannot find Annie, even searching under Butter (as the name is often misread).  I cannot find any records of anyone in the hospital and wondered if anyone else had found people living there.

Thank you in advance

Derry (Londonderry) / Duffy Birth 1943, Derry
« on: Thursday 09 April 20 18:27 BST (UK)  »
Hi I wonder if someone could point me in the right direction.  I am trying to research my Son in Law's family but have never researched in Northern Ireland before so am at a loss.  The details that I have are that his Grandfather's name was Seamus or James Duffy who was born on 13th January 1943 in Derry.  He had 19 siblings or was 1 of 19, it is thought that only 9 survived infancy.  His Dad died we think before 1960 and his Mum within 6 months.  Some siblings stayed in Ireland but some moved or were sent to England.  Some names for his siblings that we have are Harry (was a Priest in Ireland) and Eddie (came to England), Margaret and Rosalyn (both stayed in Ireland) and some emigrated to Canada. Eddie was the youngest and Seamus/James the second youngest of all the children.  Any help or pointers would be gratefully received.

Thank you in advance,

Can anyone decipher the writing on this old baptism.  The Thomas Millsom is one of mine but it's the ones below that mention Thomas and 3 and a half years and the Edward and two and a half that are confusing me. (Hope I have managed to attach it  ;D )

Many thanks

Wiltshire / Milson/Milsom marriage 1760 and 1761
« on: Wednesday 01 January 20 21:48 GMT (UK)  »
Kind of confused (doesn't take much) but my 6 x great Grandparents appear to have married twice within a week.  The first date was 26th December 1760 listed as either Salisbury, Wiltshire or Hampshire.  Their names were John Milson/Milsom and Susannah Gwyn.  They were then married on 1st January 1761 in Holt Chapel.  I have seen the record for the Holt marriage and they were married by license.

Susannah was bapt 1743, so could it be that they ran off, got married, came home then had another marriage, for their families??

Any ideas?

TIA

I have 2 ancestors both recorded in the burial records for St Peter's, Leeds.  But under the date column it states the date and then under both, states at St Mary's. Does anyone know which St Mary's this was likely to be?  They aren't the only ones listed on the page as buried at St Mary's.  In fact most on both pages are listed as buried there.

Thank you

I have a record for someone travelling to the US from Poland via the UK in 1939.  Under the Name of Passenger section on the Outward Passengers from the UK, there are headings for A, C and I.  Under the A all the page have 1, all have nothing under the other two headings.  What does the A, C and I stand for? They were all travelling First Class.

Many thanks

Please can SKS help me identify the cap badge on this photo?  My Mum found it in a case of family photos that she inherited from her parents.  There is a name on the back, written by my Grandma.  The surname is my Grandad's Mum's maiden name, but we are not aware of the first name in the family.  Can the badge/uniform give any indication of when the photo was take eg WWI, WWII or between or after etc.

It looks to me like a Petty Officer's badge but I am not at all sure.

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Bully Trees near Birstall or Gomersal - a long shot
« on: Thursday 25 January 18 00:50 GMT (UK)  »
I am currently looking into the Kershaw/Kirshaw/Kirshay etc family of Birstall.  I have come across a few records for William (they liked that name!) living at Bully Trees.  All records are from St Peter's Birstall and list him as being William K...(what ever spelling they preferred) of Bully Trees.  I have never heard of this place, not sure if it is a farm. pub or hamlet.  Kind of hoping that someone might have an idea of what Bully Trees was and where it was/is.  I have looked at oldmapsonline but could not see it (that doesn't mean that it isn't there! Had a giggle at Hell Hole Wood that looks like it is pretty much where the M62 is now, so kind of certain that a few modern day commuters will agree with the name!).  But I digress, the records that I found for William were viewable on the famous site beginning with A that rhymes with tree or transcribed on the LDS site.  He married Susanna Lister on 30th May 1737 and had a few children, starting with twins Abraham and Sarah in 1738 (although to view that one you have to beta search), there are a couple of other children William (yes another!) bapt 1742 transcribed as Kasher but it is not a good copy and John (another name they had a penchant for!) bapt 1740 both Gomersal or Great Gomersal as their place of abode.  Kind of hoping that someone is wanting a challenge.

Thanks for reading  ;D

England / Bigamous Marriage or 1st Marriage Annulled??
« on: Saturday 30 December 17 18:08 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I am looking for some assistance or advise if possible.

I am researching Lydia Prince b1854 Ludlow.  Her parents were Samuel and Louisa Prince (nee Child).  Lydia married Elijah Yapp (bc1835 Diddlebury, Shropshire. Son of Richard and Mary Yapp nee Howells).  They were married in Ludlow on 26 February 1877.  They are together in the 1881 census return living in Stanton Lacy, Shropshire.  This is the last time I can find them recorded together.  In all later census returns he is listed as living with his Mum and siblings as a married man (1891), siblings single man(1901) and finally as a widow in the workhouse in 1911.  He died in 1914.  However, Lydia married John Yates (bc1845 Ashby, Derbyshire) on 25 December 1890 in Dudley, Worcestershire, she is listed as being a single woman.  In 1891 they are listed as living in Durham, in 1901 living in West Bromwich and 1911 she is listed as a widow, living in Walsall, Staffordshire.

How can I find if her first marriage was annulled? I cannot find any record of a divorce.

Any help gratefully received
