Most of you know Alan Clarke's website at http://www.familyhistorynorthants.co.uk/index.html

Because of the cost of maintaining it, in the beginning of February it will be no more.
Any suggestions of where to host some of the content (free) are welcome.

The Common Room / Old Age Pensioner
« on: Sunday 10 March 19 20:13 GMT (UK)  »
On the 1911 census my ancestor James Smith is described as an 'old age pensioner'
Am I correct in assuming that this was a retirement pension from a former employer?
He was never in the army.

Help needed!
John DUKE married Elizabeth TATE (TAIT) 16th Jan 1785 in Montrose. They had 6 children all born and baptised in Montrose. John and Elizabeth possibly born 1760ish. But I cannot find births or deaths for either of them.
In a mini bio of son James, John is described as a merchant of Montrose and Elizabeth as the daughter of Thomas TAIT esquire of Montrose.

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / How Is This Possible?
« on: Sunday 25 November 18 22:20 GMT (UK)  »
My granddaughter has a match on ancestry to David 40 cm over 2 segments.
Her full sibling is 12 cm over one segment. I am fine with that - but

Their mother and aunt share 30 cm  and 20 cm respectively with David.

How can granddaughter have a bigger match than her mother to him?
