United States of America / BIRTH in OHIO c1867 of Scottish Son
« on: Monday 24 June 19 07:15 BST (UK)  »
I have an ancestor who was apparently born in Ohio circa 1867. It appears the family were in in USA sometime after 1863 until maybe late 1869 as child born in Scotland in Feb 1870. His name was David Kirkwood TORRANCE on his death the notice in New Zealand it said born Ohio USA and said "Ohio Newspapers please copy". His parents were James TORRANCE and Elizabeth frmly AITKEN.

They had other children with them from Scotland and there may have been a second son James Kirkwood TORRANCE born in 1869, born in Ohio??? as haven't found his birth. In 1870 they were back in Scotland.  The father/husband was a Miner.  TYIA. Glenda

England / Surname ....WALE
« on: Sunday 19 November 17 23:12 GMT (UK)  »
My Grandmother was born in Sydney Australia on the 26 March 1884. 3 months later on 17 May 1884 her birth was registered as follows: Ann Eliza WALE mother Annie WALE 19 currently in New Zealand. My Grandmother was registered by her Foster Parents, whose name she took on so I suspect her mother never returned. I've never ever found her mother, I am wondering if the mother was known to the family who fostered Grandmother as they arrived in Australia, (names) William and Charlotte SAYNOR into Sydney on the 11 Jun 1883 x Plymouth on the Ellora. Wondering: 1.was Gt Grandma on the same ship, 2. was she a "servant" to the SAYNOR'S?  they appeared to be well off. Gt Grandmother may have got pregnant just prior to or on the journey as Grandmother born 9 months later. Does anyone know where the name WALE originates. I was fortunate when looking for her that the registration was indexed under both SAYNOR and WALE... All help appreciated. I did find an Annie E WALE born abt 1864 dying in Mar Q 1947 aged 83 in Birmingham. My Grandmother was called Ann Eliza and Annie Liza, my Mum obviously didn't know about her Mums roots as she put on her death in NZ 72 years in New Zealand but she was about 19 on her first appearance here. I know Mum knew Granddad came from Australia.....

London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / 1939 Register
« on: Wednesday 23 November 16 19:28 GMT (UK)  »
I don't want to subscribe to this for a look up of only 2 "lost people" so wondering if anyone would be willing to look for me. William might be shown with just one name, but suspect he would be living with his daughter however here are full names.

William Crawford Bryce LAING born 1867 last known in 1910 in the Westminster district of London, but he died in Hove in 1948, ALSO his daughter Dorothy Audrey LAING born 1900 who was last known with her father in the Westminster District in London in 1910, has been found in Hove in one Electoral Roll and she died there (unmarried) in 1988.

Anyone give me a hint on how to search Electoral Rolls for London areas from here in Australia.

Thank you in advance.

I am trying to find *  (now most likely deceased) or descendants of same, born 1926 in Aberdeen Scotland. Last known in Germany Cir 1966/1967 believe he was married. Maybe someone can do a death search for me. (He is not the 1973 death that is his father) Can not find him in FindMyPast or SP record. Hoping someone knows someone who has knowledge of what happened to him. Thank you in advance Glenda

This is a mystery.
1901 Census, Aberdeenshire shows Molly HAINES aged 6, showing as born ENGLAND, with her parents James Alfred HAINES and Elizabeth Bickford HAINES nee MARTIN they lived at Peterhead,
also in the family were Maud, born Ipswich, SUFFOLK  1886, and Mercy, born Ipswich, SUFFOLK 1887

1911 Census all the above plus James Percival HAINES born 1902, Peterhead, Scotland

We are trying to find where Molly was born.
We are trying to find where/when Molly married.
Husband known as Mac (Mack) is all that is remembered
We know she emigrated to Australia but where/when is unknown.
We know she had children a Bill and a Lindsay and possibly more.
But where/when born unknown
We know she died in Australia pre 1994 prior to my Mothers passing.

LESSON never throw out your mothers address book after her passing because you MAY become addicted in researching your ancestors or cousins later on...

Your help is so much appreciated.
