Australia / Robinson Western Australia
« on: Saturday 07 October 17 05:30 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone help please?

William Denyer James Robinson passed away in 2002 aged 72.  We have his birth, his parents, and his place of residence in 1949, as well as his marriage in 1954. I won't mention his wife's name as she may still be living. It could be very helpful to know any details from 1949 onwards if that is possible.

At present I don't have access to a particular resource that could help.

Ireland / Trying to trace the Watson Family
« on: Wednesday 16 August 17 04:47 BST (UK)  »
On 10th December 1862 the “Golden City” sailed from Queenstown for Australia with the following family on board. They arrived in Queensland Australia on 9th March 1863, before moving to NSW seven years later.
Thomas Annesley WATSON, aged 38
Anne WATSON, aged 29 (appears as Annie on subsequent Australian documents)
Henry WATSON, aged 11
Margaret WATSON, aged 9
Thomas WATSON, aged 6
Mary WATSON, aged 4
Ansley WATSON, Infant

Thomas Annesley WATSON’s death certificate states his place of birth as Limerick, Ireland, and his place of marriage as County Clare. His parents are stated to be Benjamin WATSON & Mary Ann ANNESLEY.

Many years ago a transcription of the marriage of Thomas WATSON, (father Benjamin WATSON) was obtained through an Irish Genealogist. This gives the name of his wife as Honora HALLORAN, (father Lot HALLORAN. The marriage took place in Feakle, County Clare on 26th February, 1849.

Annie Watson’s NSW death certificate has her father listed as Lancelot O’Halloran.

One other thing that we know is that Thomas Annesley WATSON had a brother Benjamin George WATSON, who migrated to Victoria. He married in Victoria in 1861 and died aged 53 in 1881.

With the resources we have access to, we’ve been unable to find any more records online about the Watson family or the O’Halloran family back in Ireland, such as births or baptisms of the parents or the children, and we would be extremely grateful if anyone could help out in any way with suggestions or information.

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Thoughts on Deimel & Rundle photo.
« on: Wednesday 16 August 17 04:27 BST (UK)  »
The photo I’m posting is taken from a family album of carte de visite photos that range from the 1860s to the late 1880s. It was labelled Deimels and Rundles. I know that it was taken between 1865 and 1875, as that is when the photographer on the back of the photo was working in Adelaide. I also know that my ggg-grandmother Cornelia Deimel had a sister Gesina who married a John Rundle in 1850. I know that the male on the end is Julius Deimel, son of Cornelia, born 1848. The young woman on the other end is my gg-grandmother who was born Maria Anna Catherina Auguste Deimel in 1846.

I’d really appreciate ideas on whether it is likely to be a wedding photo…..if it was a wedding photo then it was either taken in 1867 or 1875.
Ideas on the ages of the others in the photos would be welcome, and in fact anything that you can possibly contribute about it.

Hoping to work out a little more about this "treasure".....

I  have posted a snip from a Bounty Application for emigration to Australia on the Deciphering Board, and it has been suggested to me that someone on this board may be able to help, as James Jess emigrated from Cork, so I  am pasting a link to the thread on here.

In 1836 James Jess applied for Bounty to help him migrate from Cork to Australia, Van Diemen's Land to be exact.
Can anyone read what has been entered in the "Name and Address of the Minister of the Parish in which he resides"?

All help will be greatly appreciated.

Here's another request for help please with my transcribing of the Inquest into Freddie's drowning in 1860.
This is what I've transcribed with just the one word puzzling me......

"It was a tank into which deceased fell – was about 18 feet  ????  and about eight feet of water in it - It was covered up -  "

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Completed Inquest Wording for little Freddie #1
« on: Saturday 17 September 16 01:28 BST (UK)  »
I'm transcribing the Inquest report for the death of my great grandfather's brother, Freddie, and there are some words I can't work out.

I know most of what it says but the
"of _______"  and the "at______________"  I cannot work out, even with checking the Historical places names of Victoria.
