Durham Lookup Requests / Ford Family south shields

I am looking for any information on William Ford b 1799 in south shields .He was a master mariner , never mentioned once in the census so possibly went on long voyages. In 1861 his wife Margaret said she was a sea captains wife. Where is the best place to get any information about him.
