London and Middlesex / Carter Family, Kensington, London.

Looking for information on the Carter family of London. My great-grandmother Maria Carter married Henry Haynes. He was born in Tilehurst Berkshire, however she was said to be from Kensington, London. A William Carter was a witness. This may be her father.

The family were the same family that had a seed company.  Carter Tested Seeds were in business at Raynes Park. It became quite an established company.

Hope I can find related Carters out there, as they seems to be very little information on line.

« on: Monday 11 July 16 17:29 BST (UK)  »
Hi

My Great Grandfather on my father's maternal side is a John McCaffrey born in 1843c we think in Fermanagh. He married an Elizabeth Moules in the UK.

We believe his father may have been Patrick McCaffrey born in 1814c who may have married a Margaret Gallagher.

No trace or proof of all this being correct. Can any one help?

Thanks

Surrey Lookup Requests / Little Italy Kingston on Thames
« on: Thursday 05 May 16 15:37 BST (UK)  »

I have been DNA tested (Family Finder) and around 8% is Italian or Sardinian.

On my mothers side of the family, she was Winnie K Leach, many have dark hair and a darkish complexion. Her sister looked very Italian. We understand that Kingston on Thames had a large Italian community.  In fact an area of the town was called "little Italy". Not sure when this community was formed, but does any one know where I can find information on Italian surnames in Kingston.?

Thanks for reading

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / Flemish Weavers
« on: Thursday 17 January 08 16:39 GMT (UK)  »
In 1331 King Edward 3rd of England Invited Flemish Weavers to work in Norfolk and West Yorkshire. Their skills were required. Liversedge near Dewsbury was one of the designated places. I am looking at the possibility that my ancestor could have been a Flemish Weaver.  In the 1379 poll tax we have a Thomas de Halle (Thomas from/of Halle. living in Liversedge. There is also a town called Halle near Brussels that was in the middle ages associated with the wool trade.

I am looking for information on other possible Flemish Weaver families.
