Cornwall / Re: marriage at Kea, Cornwall
« on: Tuesday 03 December 13 09:25 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

Can anybody help me determine Ann's baptism?

I've got her marriage from the IGI website - Anthony Cornish and Ann Pascoe 3rd Feb 1819 at Kea. But this doesn't give details of her native parish, or any witnesses.  I assume kea was her native parish?

From census info she was born c1797 in Kea.
In 1841 she was living in Baldue, Kea, Cornwall.
In 1851 she was living in Wheal Widden, Baldue, Kea, Cornwall.
In 1861 she was living in Baldue, Kea, Cornwall.

There are the following possible baptisms from IGI:

14 Jun 1795, Gwennap, daughter of John and Ann
13 Sep 1797, Gwennap, daughter of John and Miriam
4 Oct 1797, Truro, daughter of James and Catherine
6 nov 1800, Gwennap, daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth

Not sure if any of the above were born in Kea or not.

Any help or thoughts appreciated.

Regards,

Edward.

Can anyone help me find Jane Johnson in the 1841 census?

She was baptised 17th January 1813, at Thornton in the parish of Stainton.
Daughter of John and Elizabeth Johnson.

She registered the death of her elder sister (Phoebe Johnson) on 27 October 1843, and gave her name as Jane Johnson (sister) resident of Stainton. So it would seem that she should be present in Stainton along with her sister Pheobe both being unmarried.

Hi,

I'm trying to find Benjamin Harrington (born 1822 Church Aston) in the 1851, 1861, 1871 census.

In 1841, he was in census living at Wellington, Shropshire
In 1881, he was living in daughter Mary's household as a widower living in Lilleshall, Shropshire

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / Harewood / Kirkby Overblow look-up

If anyone has access to the relevant parish records,  i'm interested in the marriage of John Whitelock to Hannah Pickard 26 June 1791, Harewood.  I have found this on IGI site, but no further details are given, can anyone help with further details, I.e. were there any witnesses or were they married after banns or by licence?
 From IGI search they seem to have had children baptised in neighbouring Kirkby Overblow, Rachel (1792), Emma (1794), William (1798), Sarah (1801), Hannah (1805), John (1809).

Occupation Interests / Preceptor???
« on: Saturday 07 September 13 07:51 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I have come across an ancestor who's occupation in his daughters baptism of 1813 was given as 'Preceptor', does anyone know what on earth that could mean?  He was living in Thornton (Stainton in Cleveland), North Yorkshire at the time, which I gather was a pretty much rural area.

Hi,

I'm trying to find a particular Elizabeth Bearder after the 1841 census.

In the 1841 census she was living alone (Ind.) in Wingerworth Derbyshire, age 55, county of birth Derbyshire.

Can anyone help find her in either 1851 census, or marriage/burial between 1841-1851?

Thanks

Can anyone offer any thoughts or advice please;

I have a relative named Francis Cartwright born 16 Nov 1808 Thornton-le-Beans, and have been seeking to dig back further into the Cartwright line.

So far I have found Francis's baptism 20 Nov 1808 at Thornton-le-Beans in the bishops transcripts.  His parents were William Cartwright and Hannah Metcalfe, and they were married 6 Dec 1806 in Thornton-le-Beans (witnesses Mary Cartwright and Leonard Metcalfe).
In the 1841 census Francis's widowed mother Hannah was living in His household in Brompton, but i cant find any trace of his father Williams death or burial between 1808 and 1837.
 Francis owned a Linen weaving shop in Brompton, near the shops of Smith Atkinson and Barnabus Causfield, until his death in 1857.   He married Elizabeth Barwick 13 Jun 1829 at Brompton but can't find any witnesses or further details relating to this marriage.

I've since been searching for his father William Cartwright's baptism and I've found the following in nearby South Kilvington;

William Smith Cartwright 19 Sept 1784 son of Francis Cartwright and Mary Fawcet on the iGi site.
I wonder am I conveniently putting two and two together or is this really likely to be the correct William?  It looks promising though as one witness at William's wedding in 1806 was a Mary Cartwright who could have been either his sister or mother perhaps, and William's first/only child Francis appears to have been named after William's father Francis.  William's siblings all had middle names too, so i thought they may have been easier to find in other records, but I cant find them mentioned in any records so far after their baptism entry, so can't find any solid links.

William (Smith) Cartwright's siblings where;

John Fawcet Cartwright, bap. 14 Mar 1786
Mary Cartwright, bap. 27 Feb 1787
Francis Barnabus Cartwright, bap. 11 Jun 1788

Any thoughts or local knowledge would be appreciated,

Thanks
