Seeking help in the dating of this photo.  My Dad said it was his mother Violet Young who was born in 1887 and married in 1908, it's possible that the photo was taken for her husband during WW1.

The other alternative is that it is Violet's mother Florence who was born in 1861, she lived in Sydney Australia from mid 1880's prior to that she was in Queensland from 1864.

I just had a look at the original photo it was taken by Tesla Studios, Q.V. Markets, George St. Sydney

Australia / WILLIAM BENNETT - Convict or not?
« on: Tuesday 27 June 17 02:58 BST (UK)  »
Good morning everyone, This will be longwinded and your assistance will be much appreciated.  I am trying to prove that my 2 x gt grandfather William Bennett, b c1814 in Essex England m 1856 d 1904 was indeed a convict.  I was told that he was by a cousin of mine, however after reading the obituary that appeared in the Catholic Weekly I am having my doubts.  There is no evidence of his parents names on either his marriage certificate to Harriett Manser nor on his death certificate.
The story, in a nutshell, goes that he was from a well to do family and that when he was up before the magistrate the family disowned him.  They either wrote a letter or sent someone out after him to let him know that he had come into money but he wanted nothing to do with it.  Maybe it is true.  On his DC it states that he had been in the colony for approx. 68 years which makes it 1836 there is a William Bennett arriving per Bengal Merchant (2) in 1835 who was born in Essex tried in Kent in 1834.
His Obit follows: Mr. William Bennett.  (I know I have the correct obit as I am desc. Through Robert Owens and my dad met both the Farrells and Connolly’s mentioned below.)
One of the best known figures in Balmain, .Mr. William Bennett, passed away at his residence, 'Beulah,' Donnelly-street, Bal-main, on Tuesday, 16 ult., at the age of 89. He was one of the pioneers of the Bal-main district. He was a devout parishioner of St. Augustine's, and was highly esteemed on account of his charity, honesty of character and genial disposition. Notwithstanding his great age, he retained the possession of his faculties until a short time before his death, and received the last Sacraments before he died. The remains were consigned to their last resting place in the Field of Mars Cemetery the day following, when, in the presence of a large number of sorrowing relatives and friends, Rev. Father Menard, S.M., recited the last prayers. Mr. Ben-nett leaves two sons (Messrs. William and George Bennett) and three daughters (Mesdames Robert Owens, Patrick Farrell and Harry Connolly) to mourn their loss. The funeral arrangements were in the hands of Mr. W. N. Bull. - R.I. P.

Help please.
I am endeavouring to track down two first cousins 2R they are the sons of George Hunter 1836-1892 and his wife Louisa Mary Josephine Heterick  1839-1912. Married 1/6/1867 St Barnabas C o E Glebe. George died in Temora 1892.  A warrant was issued in Newtown for  his arrest on grounds of desertion.  In 1893 unbeknownst to Louisa that her husband was dead she filed for divorce which was granted in 1894.

1.   Ernest Hunter 19/7/1868 Alfred St Pyrmont, married Augusta Beryl (Julia) Martin 14/1/1891 son William Basil Ross Hunter b 9/3/1891. Following his birth his parents moved to the Berrima / Moss Vale / Kangaloon, Barren Grounds area.  In 1880 he is mentioned in an article relating to his father George appearing in court. In March 1893 a warrant was issued from Newtown for desertion of his wife and child, that is the last that I can find relating to him.  His wife eventually returned to Tasmania with their son Wm Basil Ross Hunter.

2.   Ross Hunter 7/7/1873 Kangaloon and is stated as being deceased in June 1912 in funeral notice for his mother.
There were two daughters to the marriage also Olivia (Olive) Hunter b Berrima 1871-1938 and Eva 14/4/1878 b Berrima – 18/7/1962 Sydney.

Any help will be very much appreciated.

Laois (Queens) / MOUNTMELLIK BIRTH 1832 - Fernandez
« on: Friday 30 October 15 02:02 GMT (UK)  »
G'day all

I am wanting to find the birth of my 2 x great grandmother Anne Fernandez/s/ss, who according to the information given on her death certificate by her husband James Isaac Markcrow, was born to Edward Fernandez/s/ss and Anne Unknown in about 1832.  Her husband stated on her death certificate that she was 17 when they married 21 Jan 1849 St John`s Church Parish of Liverpool.  My belief is they eloped as their marriage certificate gives their ages as "full".  She was buried in the Roman Catholic section of Rockhampton Cemetery Qld in 1892.

Details on the marriage certificate for Anne's father Edward also states he was a steward (ship) and on death cert it states he was a master mariner.

Any help will be gratefully appreciated

Yorkshire (West Riding) Completed Requests / Death by Rabid Dog
« on: Wednesday 23 October 13 11:12 BST (UK)  »
Hi all

My great grandfather's first wife died as a result of rabies, on her death certificate it states that a coroners inquest was held on March 18th 1872.

I am wondering whether the death of Ann Hunter would have been written up in a local newspaper, and if so would it be possible to get a copy of it.

The death was registered in Wakefield and sub-district of Wakefield and is noted as taking place in Brunswick Street.

Thanks for aany assistance
