Lovely people I'm having some problems tracking down two baptisms for a couple as well as finding them in the census record before their marriage. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Annie Gilcriss
Born: About 1857 in Yorkshire (perhaps Sculcoates district)
Father: Edward Gilcriss

William Robert Trainer
Born: About 1852 in Scarborough, Yorkshire.
Father: James Trainer (aka Francis James Trainer)

They married on the 13th of May 1878 at Christ Church, Fulwood, Lancashire, England.

Any help greatly appreciated!

Thanks all.

England / Help with Military Family - Yorkshire, Lancashire and Guernsey
« on: Friday 09 May 14 04:22 BST (UK)  »
Hey Guys,

I have a William Robert Trainer who was born in about 1853 in apparently Scarborough, Yorkshire.

He married an Annie Gilcriss (born Abt 1857 in Yorkshire apparently) on the 13th of May 1878 in Fulwood, Lancashire.

I have that he was in the 15th Regiment of Foot by 1879 as he has his first born in Mullinger, County Meath and his second in 1880 in Tipperary.  After this time I find them in the 1881 and 1891 census living at Saint Peter Port in Guernsey, Channel Island.

Sometime in 1891 they were back in England in Leeds, Yorkshire.

Then by 1916 he is in Western Australia, Australia with two of his sons. I can find the sons immigrations records (they went separately) but not William's himself.

If anyone could help me trace Annie or William back that would be great...I can't seem to find births or baptisms for them.

And I can't find William's military record for some reason.

Any help greatly appreciated!

Dublin / John McCune, Dublin - Marriage and Census
« on: Tuesday 15 October 13 10:49 BST (UK)  »
Hey Guys,

I was wondering if anyone was able to assist me - I am trying to locate John McCune and his parents John and Jane in the 1901 and 1911 census or in any other records. John was born in Dublin in about 1896. John married Elizabeth Murray in 1917 in South Dublin but that is all I am able to find. John and Elizabeth had three children - John Aloysius McCune in 1918, Bernard Joseph McCune in 1920 and Maureen Patricia McCune in 1921. The family emigrated to Australia in 1926 aboard the Demosthenes from London.

The surname doesn't appear to be that common so I wondered if the surname is something slightly different but have had no luck with McKeon, McCann and other similar surnames (can't recall all the ones I have tried).

Any assistance and advice appeared! Thanks :)

Hey all!

I am looking for the marriage of George Fergus Brooke (aka George Feargus Brook) and Ann Lee in parish records. They married in 1874 in Huddersfield. George was from Lockwood, Ann from Honley.

I have found the above marriage in the BMD index, however I was wondering if someone were able to look up the marriage in the parish records?

Any help greatly appreciated :)

Australia / Victoria's BDM Records - Date Specific?
« on: Thursday 11 August 11 00:22 BST (UK)  »
Hey all,

I was wondering if anyone had any idea how I could access a list of all males born in Richmond, Victoria on the 24th of April 1898?

The Victorian Registry of BDM said that this wasn't possible - however would it be possible using some of the old BDM Cd's? or perhaps some other method?

Any help appreciated!

Thanks!

Berkshire / James Alfred Haines - can't find birth in 1852 in Kingston Bagpuize
« on: Monday 18 July 11 04:28 BST (UK)  »
Hey everyone!

I am researching a James Alfred Haines who's military record gives his date of birth as 1852 in the parish of Southmore, Berkshire, England. I cannot what it says under 'near the town of' but it appears to say Addington or Abingdon.

In census records he gives his place of birth consistently as Kingston Bagpuize, Berkshire, England.

His marriage record (he married Bridget Dower in India in 1880) states his father's name is John Haines.

I cannot find John in the birth indexes, now in the census before 1891 (found him in 1891, 1901 and 1911).

Any help greatly appreciated!

PS: I am aware Kingston Bagpuize is now a part of Oxfordshire, is this the right place for this topic or should I also have it in the Oxfordshire section of the forum?

Australia / Marriage Church Record (William THOMAS)
« on: Saturday 18 June 11 02:06 BST (UK)  »
Hey all!

I have the marriage certificate for a William Thomas and Mary Ann Eliza Cox - married 26th May 1877 in the District of Tenterfield according to the rites of the Church of England. Both parties (even though there is the space for it) don't list their parent's names. Both William and Mary lived in Maryland at the time, with Mary residing with her parents (who seem to be Joseph Hadley and Mary Ann Eliza Cox according to her second marriage's certificate). William's occupation is Bushman. Both parties neglect to list their ages as well (probably because William was about 42 and Mary only 16 and a half). The witnesses are John F Davis and Harriet Collins.

I was wondering what sort of record the church may have kept, and if they usually contain more information than the official certificate? Or is it much the same? I am dying to find out William's parent's names (he was born at sea on the way here from Boston USA).

Any help appreciated!

Pembrokeshire / Higgon/Higgins
« on: Saturday 06 November 10 03:58 GMT (UK)  »
I was wondering if someone can help me with an ancestor.

I have Charles Higgon christened 19 Sep 1813 at Walton East, Pembrokeshire, Wales. He married Martha Edwards 24 Nov 1838 at Castlemartin, Pembrokeshire.

Charles' father is Evan Higgon. He was a gamekeeper according to Charles' marriage certificate. And Charles was apparently born in Spittal (next to Walton East).

Charles was buried 4 Feb 1899 at Castlemartin, Pembrokeshire.

I'm having trouble finding Evan at all.

PS: The name changes from Higgon/Higgons/Higgins/Higgins/Higon etc. throughout the censuses and certificates.

Any help appreciated!

Immigrants & Emigrants - General / USA to Australia Immigration
« on: Sunday 31 October 10 04:03 GMT (UK)  »
My ancestor William Thomas has said he was born in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. From his age given on his son's birth certificate he would have been born About 1837.

On his death certificate it says he was born at sea.

So, presumably, his family came from the USA to Australia in About 1837, and on the way William was born (if what his death certificate says is true. His wife was the informant).

However I'm having trouble finding Shipping records for 1837 to Australia. I believe he would have arrived at NSW as he married there in 1877.

Does anyone know much about USA to Australia immigration in this early period. Also about marine births.
