« on: Tuesday 12 January 21 18:38 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All,
Can anybody help me identify these soldiers uniforms, anything you tell me would be very helpful
Soldier in the single photograph was taken in Birmingham,  and I believe he has the signallers badge on his sleeve
Two soldiers, one I believe was in the west Kent regiment and has the badge on his lapel. I’m not sure about the other soldiers. The picture was taken in High Street Chatham
Thank you

Hi,

Could anyone possibly look up the marriage of John Gregory to Elizabeth Griffin Dec 1860 Bristol vol 6a page 48. John was a widow when he married Elizabeth, but I know nothing about Elizabeth, or even if I have the right marriage. I've been able to eliminate some and dismiss others leaving this as the most likely one John's Father was William Gregory, a spade tree maker.

Any help would be much appreciated
Thank you
Dee :)

Staffordshire / Marriage of John Grindley to Leonora AKA Honor
« on: Sunday 02 October 11 17:28 BST (UK)  »

Hi All  :)

I wonder if anyone could help me, I'm trying to locate the marriage of John Grindley and Leonora also known as Honor. Whilst John was born in Forton, Shropshire, Leonora was born out of the county as stated on the 1841 census. I have contacted the Shropshire records office and they have no marriage for the pair in Chetwyn, or Edgmond and since the IGI covers Shropshire  marriages up to 1812 fairly well, and they advised me that the marriage took place elsewhere.

John and Leonora's first child was born in Chetwynd in 1806, but I believe their marriage may have taken place in Staffordshire. Please could anyone advise me regarding the marriage possibly taking place circa 1803-10.. I am housebound, so all my research is done online.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated

United States of America / Elijah Bailey marriage and death Pennsylvania
« on: Wednesday 31 August 11 16:31 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,

I wonder if anyone can help me with my 2nd great grand uncle Elijah Bailey born in Eastington Gloucestershire in 1826. As far as I was aware he married twice firstly to Charlotte Miles in 1860, Wheatenhurst. They had one son Thomas henry born 1850 Eastington, Gloucestershire. After his wife died in 1855 he married Eliza
W(h)etmore in 1855 Birmingham.

Either Elijah, Eliza and his son Thomas all travelled to Pennsylvania circa 1873 and settled in Allegheny, or jsut Elijah and Thomas as I have the Father and son and Thomas' wife and family on the Federal censuses. I Think it states that Elijah was widowed, but I don't know if Eliza died before they left or soon after they arrived.

Elijah (Baily) died in 20 Jan 1888 and I know that there was a death notice for him in the Freeport Journal, Armstrong PA and the Mansfield item, Carnegie, does anyone know how I could find access to the obituary to be able to obtain a copy for my records?

Someone that I have been in contact with mentioned a possible marriage for Elijah to an Adaline Favourite in Allegheny April 1887, but they don't know where they obtained the details from, again, does anyone know how I can prove or disprove this lead?

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

South Africa / George Pile deserted 1883 West Coast of Africa?
« on: Wednesday 22 June 11 20:58 BST (UK)  »
Hi All,

I wondered if anyone will be able to help me? I'm trying to find the whereabouts  of George Pile born 1860 in Great Chart, Ashford in Kent. I believe he joined RMLI aged 14 as a drummer boy at Chatham, England and was discharged in 1883 (he deserted), it's all a little sketchy at the moment.

On the 1881 census he was aboard HMS Gannet anchored of Elmina and stationed off the Cape of Good Hope and West coast of Africa. After that census was taken he disappears leaving his wife Sarah Ann, my great grand aunt appearing alone on subsequent censuses until her death in 1936, still stating that she is married.

I'm awaiting the arrival of George's Attestation papers from UK National Archives, but could anyone point me in the right direction to finding out what happened to George after he deserted.

Many thanks

Essex / Willliam Groves Hall....help
« on: Tuesday 08 March 11 20:59 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All,

I'm trying find any information on William Groves Hall. I believe he was my 4 X Great Grandfather.  I know he had two daughters one Lucy born circa 1802 Harwich who married Thomas Foster at St Nicholas, Deptford in 1818 and who died in 1879. The second daughter was Eliza Ames born 1818 Harwich who married in 1838 (St George In the East) to George Robertson born 1810 Peterhead Eliza died in 1871 Stepney. William is noted as being Master Mariner, does anyone know where I could find records relating to his occupation?

The witnesses at Lucy's marriage to Thomas Foster were Edward Groves and R (?) Groves.

Can anyone help me with other siblings for Lucy and Eliza?
Who did William Groves Hall marry?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated on any way I can find out any more information on the Hall family in Harwich, and perhaps the Groves.

Surrey / Springett's Kingston Upon Thames ?
« on: Thursday 01 July 10 15:57 BST (UK)  »
Hi All  :)

I'm having trouble finding the parents of my 3 x Great Grandfather Joseph Springett born circa 1790. He married Mary Mason in 1817 in Dartford, Kent (witnesses Richard Steen and Mary Akehurst)  He died in 1825 aged 35 in Milton, Gravesend, Kent. I don't believe he was born in Kent,  I have scoured the Medway CityArk site with no trace of a possible birth. He had four children Hephzibah, John Richard, Samuel and Sarah Ann, all born in Dartford. He appears to have no connection to the Kent area, maybe his job of post boy saw him travel from Surrey?

According to IGI there was a Joseph Springett circa 1790 baptised 17 July Kingston Upon Thames to James and Sarah Springett (BATCH NUMBER C015493 1741-1875) which includes:

Jane 1786
John Springett c 1789
Samuel c 1794
Stephen c 1796
Susan c 1798
Ann c 1803

So a possible marriage between James and Sarah circa 1785

I am trying to see if there is a connection, if  these could  be Joseph's parents and siblings.
I have been trying to trace the mariages of Joseph's possible siblings, to see if perhaps there is a common witness or family name mentioned.

I don't seem to be able to find a marriage for a Joseph in Surrey, could this be that he did indeed marry in Dartford?

I believe that Susan Springett married David Williams, St Mary's Teddington, Surrey in 1820 witnesses were her brother Stephen, Robert Child and Mary Child.

John Springett married Ann Gad, St Mary's Teddington, Surrey 1810. Witnesses were Richard and John Gad.

Stephen Springett married Louisa Amey 1823 St Anne Soho, Westminster IGI

Sorry to be so long winded, but does anyone have any other suggestions on how I can prove or disprove a connection between Joseph and the Kingston Springett's  :-\

Regards

Dee
