The Stay Safe Board / Diary Summary Week Ending Sunday 5th March 2023
« on: Monday 27 February 23 05:17 GMT (UK)  »
February so quickly drawing to a close with the new week and already another new month, still to catch up with family in north as roads have been further damaged with wild weather. They're due to come down to Auckland later in March for a medical appointment and hopefully travel will be a bit easier then if not before.

New tenants over the weekend in the empty rental house alongside us, has been vacant since October and former tenants are still staying with us in the 'granny flat' since Christmas. Census papers arrived last week for the 5 yearly stats and to be filled out on Tuesday 7th March. We had only 1 set delivered at first for our street number but as we have an 'a' at the number as well, another set arrived for the flat the next day, just left in the letterbox at the gate and no knocking at door as they used to and appropriate papers for number of people. Not sure if new tenants have picked up theirs yet as landlord hasn't reattached box to post since it was knocked over and there is mail addressed to him in it as well, rental sign is still up too. Haven't seen, only heard new folk and suspect they may be uni students perhaps, a bit of music and laughter Saturday night and all house lights on overnight, quiet Sunday and no cars there but several cars and laughter etc today Monday when we got home in afternoon, so quite noticeable in our fairly quiet surroundings.  2018 Census option was pushing for being done on line, not so much this time and think we will post ours back, talked our 'guests' through theirs as they will need to fill out the dwelling one and they seemed a bit unsure of the whole process and reason for doing it.

Have a good week all ….

The Stay Safe Board / Diary Summary Week Ending 12 February 2023
« on: Monday 06 February 23 03:41 GMT (UK)  »
Beginning of a new week of diary summary and fresh pages for those a few hours behind NZ and Australia to wake up to.

A damp start to our Monday but sun is now shining this afternoon and a cacophany of cicadas and a neighbouring V8 engine running for the last few minutes wafting through the open doors beside me.
Only a slight breeze and fan directed my way, rather a lot of wet and autumnal looking leaves littering our driveway ...

The Stay Safe Board / Foreign Correspondence
« on: Sunday 29 March 20 05:26 BST (UK)  »
Most of our broadcast news in relation to Covid-19 particularly is NZ related understandably. TVNZ has foreign correspondents based to cover their broader areas and much of what we get I heard first on RC threads in this section when I'm attempting keeping up  ;) ... and also from some friends living outside NZ.
Our Europe Correspondent is based in London, we also have one in New York and one in Sydney, so hearing bulletins from them and also reading some news on line,  news of those affected hugely is coming through but many countries very little, have seen some graphs.
Good to get the updating feed from other rootschatters, a lot from the UK naturally and from parts of Australia, also snippets from Canada and the USA and Erato's reports from Ecuador to keep relatively informed of situation and measures in place.

NZ is SHUT, quite strict enforcement with being now on day 4 of lockdown.

1st confirmed case death this morning sadly,  woman early 70's with significant health issues, first thought to have had influenza before diagnosis and reported as stable in hospital since last week and then onto ventilator. I imagine the whole country was hoping as I was that all the hospital patients so far would pull through and at this stage others are stable or discharged.

We get a daily update at 1 pm, with number of confirmed and probable cases plus those in hospital and those recovered, done 24 hourly at 9 am.

Summary
As at 9.00 am, 29 March 2020               Total to date      New in last 24 hours
Number of confirmed cases in New Zealand    476                            60
Number of probable cases                              38                              3
Number of confirmed and probable cases    514                            63
Number of cases in hospital                        9 (28 total to date)    -
Number of recovered cases                      56                              6
Number of deaths                                        1

Take care out there ... mare
