« on: Wednesday 24 April 24 21:52 BST (UK)  »
Good evening all
I have found a record on Ancestry for Bartholomew Dickenson listed as below
Bartholmew ?? Dickinson
in the UK, Royal Hospital Chelsea Pensioner Admissions and Discharges, 1715-1925
The image links to Fold3 Website, but then I get pingponged between the UK and US site and can't access the image.
Is anyone able to see this for me
many thanks in advance

Armed Forces / Grandfather using assumed name in Boer War
« on: Saturday 28 October 23 12:32 BST (UK)  »
Hi all
This is probably not something I will be able to sort out, but suggestions welcome.
According to family tradition, my grandfather joined the 17th Lancers and served in the 2nd Boer War. We have a photo of him in 17th Lancers uniform. I distantly remember seeing his badge with the Death or Glory motto. He said he once kissed the Blarney stone when he was 18 or so. This fits with where the Lancers were at that time. The problem is he joined under an assumed name for an unknown reason.
Another family member had a military genealogist look into this but the report he sent back was the incorrect man. When I got a copy of the report some years after it was made I was able to trace the soldier to someone who was obviously not my grandfather. Can anyone think of a way of tracing a person using an unknown assumed name. Possibly using the medal rolls ?
Sorry for the long post

The Common Room / Insolvent debtors London Gazette
« on: Tuesday 26 September 23 20:22 BST (UK)  »
In the London Gazette in 1858 my GG gf is listed with many others, under the heading "Court for the relief of insolvent debtors".
Does anyone know where I may be able to find more information about this. I have a link to the page if needed.

Saw this gravestone today in St Mary's churchyard in Dedham. If anyone has connections to the Parsons family it may be of interest.

Planning a visit to this church in the next week or so, if anyone needs photos of headstones etc., let me know.

Whilst looking for info on the church I found this link to a virtual tour.

The Common Room / Any Who Do You Think You Are buffs out there?
« on: Saturday 08 April 23 21:13 BST (UK)  »
Hi all
I seem to remember an episode of WDYTYA where the celebrity had links to the Spring family of Lavenham, but I can't remember who it was !

Anyone with a better memory than me out there.

Thanks
Fred

This group photo includes my Grandfather G J Pye b 1880,(the one with his sleeves rolled up )   He had various occupations listed at different times inc Labourer, Boiler maker. Dock Labourer Carman.

In 1911 he was listed as dock labourer.

Any ideas as to the date of the photo, location , occupation  welcomed. Does anyone recognise anything in the photo?

I'm not sure but I may have asked this before, some time ago but someone may have some new ideas.

(BTW no work needed on the photo, thank you)

Regards

Fred

Hi all
Does anyone have access to a copy of the above other than the Google digitised version.
There is a section missing on top line of pg 63 and it happens to be some names I'd like to see .
